Exploring Spain

When to visit Spain

Spain is truly a year round destination but the best time to visit will depend on what you want to do whilst you’re away. The summer gets very hot and it’s not unusual to be in the high 30’s (degrees celsius) in August so planning an intensive hiking, walking or sightseeing trip then is not really advisable.

The winters can be cold, especially in the Sierras, but it is still a great time to explore, especially as we’ll make sure you stay somewhere warm and cosy!

Otherwise, Andalucia is a fantastic destination to visit throughout the year and the varied landscapes enjoy seasonal changes and are enriched with the many interesting festivals….they like a celebration in Andalucia (over 3,000 fiestas are celebrated every year!)

Hiking and walking – The best months for hiking and walking are spring and autumn with temperatures around 10-25 degrees during the days, usually with cloudless skies. Winters and summers are also great times to explore, you’ll just need to be a bit more prepared for temperatures dropping to around 0 degrees in the winter nights and soaring to 40 degrees in on August days!

Stars in winter – Winter night skies offer some of the best stargazing in Europe.

Festivals:

Semana Santa – Holy week in Andalucia is taken very seriously and celebrated with an intensity that is a really eye-opening experience for the outsider. Huge street processions take place all over the region, with dedicated locals arduously carrying enormous and elaborately decorated floats under candle light.

Feria – These fairs are commonplace throughout the region, with most towns hosting one during the months of April-June. Sevillana style flamenco dancing, horse drawn traditional carriages with everyone dresses to impress is a sight to behold. If you’re looking for feria at its biggest and boldest then head to Seville in early May or Jerez de la Frontera.

Festivals
