On this Diamond Line Journey you spend 3 nights travelling from Pretoria to Cape Town, you start with one overnight in Pretoria. After that, the next morning you have a transfer to the Rovos Railway Station. Indeed, now it is time to hopp on the well-know Rovos train and spend 3 nights travelling from Pretoria to Cape Town. During your tour you stop at the ‘Diamond’ town Kimberly. For example you can visit the diamond museum and see the “Big Hole”. Following the Kimberley stop, the journey takes you Matjiesfontein. At this pointm you are able to stroll through this lovely historical village. Before the train continues through the Karoo, heading for Cape Town.
Furthermore, the next part of your Diamond Line journey is in Cape Town. In fact a private transfer will pick you up at the railway station and take you to your hotel. Cape Town Hollow is in walking distance to both shops and restaurants. As soon as you collect your rental car the next morning, you are ready to explore! In detail, you spend 4 nights in Cape Town, before your Diamond Line journey takes you to the Winelands. Over and above, Stellenbosch is a lovely vibrant university town. Offering both shops and cosy restaurants and bars. During your stay in Stellenbosch, I highly recommend to visit Dylan Lewis Sculpture Garden. The setting is just amazing! Having said that, you spend 3 nights in Stellenbosch before your journey gets a little ‘wilder’
Finally the diamond line journey takes you from the Winelands to Cape Town airport. Finally you fly into the Kruger National Park and Sabi Sands. Basically your adventure begins, as soon as you hit the ground at Skukuza Airport. Another keypoint is that Skukuza is situated within the Kruger National Park. Hence, …. your first ‘game drive’ starts right here. Finally you spend 3 nights at Savanna Safari Lodge, an exclusive 5-star lodge. As a matter of fact, Savanna is situated in the famous Sabi Sands Reserve. Hence, enjoy 2 full-days in the bush! Coupled with morning and afternoon game drive you spend your days listening to the serenity of the African bush. On the last day of your diamond line journey, you have one last morning game drive, before your road transfer will take you back to Skukuza for your flight to Johannesburg.
Upon arrival in Johannesburg, you will have a private road transfer to Pretoria. Here you will have time to relax, after a long overnight flight. This is a great option to be fully refreshed for your train journey tomorrow.
1 overnight at Southern Sun on a Bed & Breakfast Basis
After breakfast a shuttle will take you to Rovos railway station. If you like, you can arrive earlier to visit the museum.
Travel across the goldfields of the Witwatersrand and the broad grassland plains of the Highveld. You may freshen up in your suite, before joining fellow travellers in the lounge and observation cars. Lunch and dinner will be served in the dining cars. Tea in the lounge and observation cars.
3 Overnights on board on a Fully Inclusive Basis
After breakfast you can make your way to the observation car and enjoy the scenery. Making your way to Kimberley. Here you can enjoy a tour of Kimberley’s Diamond Mine Museum and the Big Hole. As the capital of the Northern Cape, Kimberley is well known for the discovery of diamonds that led to its establishment in 1871.
Overnight on board
Today the train travels through the Karoo, a vast semi-desert region that was once an enormous inland sea. After lunch, there is a chance for guests to disembark the train at Whitehill Siding and walk the 5km into Matjiesfontein. A member of staff will accompany the group. Disembark at Matjiesfontein for an opportunity to stroll through the historic village. About an hour after Matjiesfontein, the train arrives at the first of four tunnels on the pass.
Dinner is served as the train climbs ±750m down the escarpment towards Worcester.
Overnight on board
After your last breakfast on board, the train travels through the Hex River Valley, before you arrive at Cape Town railway station. A private transfer meets you here and take you to your hotel.

4 overnights at Cape Town Hollow. Centrally located and in walking distance to restaurants and bars, as well as a short stroll away from Company Gardens and the V&A Waterfront
After breakfast you can pick up your car at the downtown office. Now it is time to explore! You can drive to Camps Bay and enjoy the beach or take the scenic route to the Cape Peninsula and the Cape of Good Hope, making your way back to Cape Town via Simons Town to visit the Boulder penguins. Visit the colourful houses of Bo Kaap and if the weather allows and the view is good, go up the Table Mountain. A visit at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens is also recommended.
Another lovely option is to book a guided Township bicycle tour with lunch at a local. This is a great option to support the community and learn more about life in the townships.
Today the road takes you to the lovely town called Stellenbosch. It is a lovely little town with lots of little shops, restaurants and bars. Book a hop-on-hop-off wine tour or visit Dylan Lewis Sculpture Garden.
Franschhoek is also lovely to spend a day strolling around town and have lunch at one of the wine farms.
3 overnights at Oude Werf Hotel on a Bed & Breakfast Basis
After an early breakfast you will drive to Cape Town airport, drop off your rental car and fly into the Kruger.
Skukuza airport is situated within the Kruger National Park, which means your road transfer to the hotel will be your first game drive as well.
Settle in, before you will go on your first afternoon game drive. The knowledgable guides are happy to share their knowledge with you, so do not hesitate to ask as many questions as you like.
3 overnights at Savanna Private Game Reserve on a Fully Inclusive Basis
Spend your days looking for wildlife, relax by the pool or at the privacy of your room. Enjoy the serenity of the bush and I am sure that waking up at 5am will never be better than in the African bush.
You may head out on foot with an armed ranger. The perspective of the bush is entirely different to that of a vehicle, and you will learn to read the signs of the wild, and perhaps come into close contact with the different animal species on the reserve.
After your last morning game drive and breakfast, you will have a road transfer back to Skukuza airport for your flight to Johannesburg. From here you can connect with your flight back home.
