"...'amazing views, top of the hill looking watching the sun go down with cheetah relaxing after a kill just a short way off' and 'wonderful people who went to terrific lengths to ensure your stay was the best experience'..."
Roy Pilgrim

There are only 6 rooms at the lodge all offering luxury and comfort. Three rooms are located in the Manor House, whilst the other 3 "Karoo Suites" are located a short walk from the main building. The Karoo Suites are free-standing and private.

Rooms in the Manor House each open onto the veranda whilst the Karoo suites each have a private veranda. Although rooms are basically similar, the Karoo suites are slightly larger with a bigger sitting area and also boast an outdoor shower. All rooms have en suite bathrooms, internet connection and offer a very comfortable stay.

The main lodge area is traditional Colonial style and guests can relax in the lounge or sit outside on the spacious veranda enjoying the views. During winter months a cosy fire will warm the atmosphere. There is a large swimming pool to cool-off.

Indulge in spa treatments, relax with a book or laze by the pool during the day. Your stay at any of the Samara lodges is focused on not only the game drives but also to relax and absorb the tranquil surrounds.

Couples and families are welcome at the lodge. Samara Karoo Lodge offers a dedicated 'kiddies programme' - ask us for more information about this.

Samara Private Game Reserve offers a selection of other exclusive lodges on the reserve - for more details click on the links below to review:

Game drives are offered in open-landrovers in the mornings and afternoon. Professional guides will share their knowledge of the bush, animals and birds.

Samara is not a 'big five' reserve, however guests will be able to enjoy sightings of the endangered Cheetah which are free roaming. There is a large variety of plains game, including Cape Mountain Zebra, white rhino, giraffe, wildebeest, eland, kudu, gemsbok, springbok and red hartebeest. Smaller mammals include vervet monkeys and meercat (member of the mongoose family).

We can highly recommend to combine your stay at Samara Private Reserve with a stay in one of the many big five reserves in the Eastern Cape. This offers a very complimentary safari experience. Ask us for advice on the best combinations offers to suite your South Africa safari holiday.

Samara is in malaria free Eastern Cape, close to Graaff Reniet. Access to the lodge is possible with daily flights from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth. Guests can either self-drive or transfers can be arranged. There is also an air-strip for charter flights to land. Ask us for more information when enquiring.

Samara Karoo Lodge is a good option for guests looking for a safari experience in tranquil surrounds, beautiful scenery and informative game experience.
