"Good restaurant, nice rooms and a lovely pool!" - Risa S, Aug 2019

Bambu will feel like your home no matter how short - or long - your stay. Lovingly built and run by British ex-builder Pat and his wife, it is the sort of place you really look forward to returning to after a day enjoying the sights and rural life around Battambang.

Enjoying a night cap at the well stocked bar by the illuminated swimming pool in the evening is all part of the pleasure here. Meanwhile, the rooms are spacious, stylish and airy. With old reclaimed tile floors, high wooden beamed ceilings and clean, white walls, Bambu has a wonderfully traditional feel despite being a relatively new building.

We love the attention to detail here - and how beautifully maintained the grounds and buildings are. The swimming pool is a great size and the restaurant spills into the gardens around the pool.

All rooms have en suite bathrooms, air conditioning, telephone, flat screen cable TV, DVD player with access to a DVD library, iPod docker, mini bar, room safe and private terrace or balcony. Free WiFi is provided around the site and there is also two dedicated computer terminals in reception for use by guests.

There are three different types of rooms to choose from. The deluxe standard rooms are in buildings in the garden at the back of the house and have feature Khmer King, Queen or twin sized beds. Each room has a private terrace and garden area with table and chairs.

Upstairs in the same building, the garden houses are on the first floor - but these also have a private balcony with table and chairs. The most luxurious rooms are the suites in the main house, which are even more spacious with large balconies with a table, chairs and removable hammocks.

Pat and Chan, who is from Battambang, pride themselves on running an eco-friendly sustainable hotel and most of the materials used to build Bambu were sourced locally including the roof and floor tiles and most of the furniture.

Off limits to most visitors until the Khmer Rouge cease fire in 1996 Battambang, Cambodia's second city, is an increasingly popular destination for tourists who want to experience a taste of the "real Cambodia". Pat and Chan will give you plenty of advice and tips on the local area.

The hotel is about a five minute walk from the river and 15 minutes from the town centre of Battambang. The town is about two and a half hours by car from Phnom Penh and Siem Reap.
