Fundo Chincheros is a 19th Century farmstay style property located on the outskirts of Puno and Lake Titicaca. It is a unique property as it is a traditional ranch dedicated to Andean animal husbandry, such as llamas, alpacas, cows, sheep and horses which has recently opened its doors to tourism.

The property is in a beautiful location with uninterrupted views of the farmland apart from the train coming from Cusco a few times a day which just adds to its unique location. It is about 20 minutes in the car to Puno and the lake and so does offer a different experience to most properties in the area which are located on the lake and have this as their focus.

Instead if you choose to stay here you will get the opportunity to enjoy the nature of the area including bird watching, contact with lamas and alpacas, daily farm activities and horseback riding. We can of course, and would recommend, arranging day trips to the lake and the Uros Islands from here.

The property itself still feels very much like a home and you will be welcomed in this way. The owners stay in a small building next to the main building and are there to help with all your needs along with a few others who have worked on the farm for years. Please note the owners speak fantastic English but others do not. The kitchen is open for all guests to use and if you wish you can even cook your own meals from fresh produce bought in the town. We would however recommend choosing the optional dinner which is sure to be a feast of organic and local products. It will be served in the main living room, which is the heart of the home, and guests regularly enjoy a glass of wine and sharing stories around the fire here.

The bedrooms have been beautifully created to still reflect the traditional building and have all the original features. Gas heaters have been added to keep you warm along with lots of cosy blankets. Please note the rooms have not been done as hotel rooms and are instead unique and personal with the feeling of someone’s bedroom. Towels and organic bathroom products are included.

A true highlight here is also the breakfast which is included where you will be served fresh fruits, eggs to order and dairy products which are homemade from the milk of the cows on the farm.

We fell in love with this property and believe it is a truly unique experience for your time in Peru as it offers something completely different. However, it isn’t for everyone and it is not intended to be run like a hotel but as someone’s home who would like to showcase rural Andean living in a truly stunning location.
