The main gateway to Namibia is Windhoek Hosea Kutako International Airport, which serves the capital. The hub was named after the Herero leader Hosea Kutako and is located 28 miles east of Windhoek. After its renovation in 2009, it handles an average of 700 000 passengers a year. The airport has a modern terminal with a departure hall and an arrival hall.

Currently, there are only seven airlines that fly regularly to Hosea Kutako. Most connections come from larger cities in neighbouring countries such as South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Zambia, which is why most direct flights to Windhoek are rather expensive. It is better to fly to the regional hub of Johannesburg-OR Tambo in South Africa, which has flights from virtually all parts of the world, including London-Heathrow, Paris-Charles de Gaulle, Amsterdam and many other major cities. There are direct flights from London Heathrow to Windhoek with British Airways and South African Airways. KLM and Lufthansa offer flights via Amsterdam or Frankfurt. From Johannesburg, visitors can fly to Windhoek with Air Namibia, British Airways, South Africa Airways or South African Express.

We can offer a full Namibia holiday service including flight bookings but some clients save money by booking their tickets themselves and we are happy to offer advice. For this reason, the holiday prices we quote exclude flight tickets and you should add around £900-£1200 per person to allow for the cost. To get the best prices you really need to book flights early as leaving to the last minute means you pay a premium.
