The lodge consists of 32 rooms – 19 of which are stone and thatch bungalows, including 2 family bungalows, and 13 of which are tented chalets. The bungalows are all located close to the main area and all have an en-suite bathroom with shower. Each bungalow sleeps 2, except for the family bungalows, which each sleep 5. The 2 family bungalows share a small pool and a garden with a picnic table. The tented chalets are mostly situated a bit away from the main area, overlooking the river. The chalets are built on a raised wooden deck with a front veranda offering views of the birds and animals coming for a drink at the spring.
The main area consists of an open-plan thatched building which includes a lounge as well as a restaurant and bar. The restaurant offers individual wooden tables as well as breakfast buffet bar, while the lounge area has a series of comfortable chairs and a large comfortable soda. There is also a wood burning heater situated between the dining room and lounge for the cooler evenings. Outside guests will find 2 large verandas overlooking the riverbed and mountains beyond – offering the perfect place to sit and watch the birds and elephants coming for a drink at the river. Guests are also welcome to make use of the 2 swimming pools to cool off during the warm summer afternoons.
Activities at the lodge include morning and evening nature drives, as well as full-day game viewing excursions (advance booking required for all full-day excursions) into the Palmwag Concession. Those with a bit more energy are welcome to go on a 3 hour guided walk, or a half or full-day rhino tracking excursion. There are also a variety of cultural excursions, and the more adventurous can spend a night out under the stars in the concession.
Palmwag Lodge is an ideal accommodation option for couples and families looking for accommodation with a variety of activities on offer. Please speak to us about how to include a stay here into your Southern Africa safari holiday!
