Yadanarpon Dynasty Hotel, close to Mandalay Royal Palace, is located in a peaceful and charming area. Decorated to recall bygone days, the hotel is simple yet comfortable.

The rooms are handsomely appointed to reflect the traditions of Myanmar architecture using bronze, gold and teak - expect lovely finishing touches like traditional Burmese lanterns on the walls with Buddhas on them - and we loved the tree trunk table in the rooms. The entry-level Superior rooms are well furnished and a comfortable size but have no views and are located at the back of the hotel. Meanwhile Deluxe rooms, at the front, offer a private balcony and a little more space - we particularly liked the Deluxe rooms on the third floor, which have the best views. The Corner Suite rooms are the most spacious with two windows, allowing more light to flood into the room - but the Villas are the largest and best rooms in the hotel.

The restaurant on the ground floor of the property features Myanmar, Chinese, European and Thai cuisine and is moderately priced. Guests can enjoy dining with the spectacular scenery of the surrounding landscape from the roof terrace. When we visited the hotel in late-2015 they were building a swimming pool on the roof, which will be a welcome addition to this lovely hotel.
