"We had an unexpected upgrade to this hotel for one night and it was a real treat with our own butler! Great hotel, lovely decor, and fabulous pool. The best bed of the holiday!" - Fiona McF, Feb 2019

This five star hotel was built in 1901 and couples a timeless charm with a striking colonial architecture, and has been recently refurbished to meet every modern luxury standard and beyond.

Inside, teakwood floors and hard-carved wooden beds and ceiling fans are tastefully balanced by Burmese lacquerware and antiquities in the bedroom and separate sitting area that makes up each suite. Near floor to ceiling windows let in Yangon’s abundance of natural light during the day.

The six Superior rooms offer 55smsq of space, a double-sink and a deep bathtub. The 19 Deluxe Suites offer up to 10msq of extra space, while the three Executive Suites straddle corners and include luxuriously oversized picture windows. The Strand Suite is the hotel's largest and most magnificent, at 200msq, and includes opulent gold fittings and dining area able to seat 10 guests.

A team of butlers work around the clock to attend to guests' needs. In fact, the hotel's excellent service starts at the airport with a meet and greet and airport transfer. Bespoke tours can also be arranged and luxury transport booked.

The Strand restaurant offers fine dining in a beautiful white room, accentuated by black and gold lacquer panels from Bagan.

The decor at the Strand Cafe harks back to the colonial era while contemporary British photographer Tim Hall’s striking black & white photographs of the country’s monks and hill tribes add a modern twist. The cafe is a sunlit spot to enjoy Burmese-style afternoon tea. The Strand Bar is something of a legendary establishment in Yangon, with its Friday Happy Hour, and is the place to be seen sipping a cocktail after a day of sightseeing.

The spa offers massage treatments and a chance to sip tea while taking a rejuvenating herbal bath.

After the renovations, and to big awe, the hotel inaugurated a marvellous outdoor swimming pool with great surrounding seating and lounging area, proving one of the best relaxing spots in the city.

Outside the hotel, Yangon offers visitors a treasure trove of 19th century colonial architecture and beyond that, renowned Buddhist sites like Shwedagon and Sule Pagodas. Further afield, guests can discover over 2,000 more temples across the ancient city of Bagan.
