The Tharabar Gate wins serious points for its location, being just one of only five hotels in Old Bagan - home to the temples that put this city on the map. Set on winding paths down well manicured gardens, the rooms are very spacious and nicely decorated, while guests will also enjoy the large swimming pool and open plan dining room.

The hotel has 84 rooms - most of which are identical deluxe rooms with just four suites. The deluxe rooms are light and airy with cream walls and high ceilings set against a rich wooden floor. They are very spacious with a wardrobe and dressing area as well as a small, private terrace at the back with sun loungers. The smart marble bathrooms have a shower over a bath tub; giving you the option of showering or bathing.

The suite rooms are much bigger with a separate living space and pagoda views at the back. The private terrace area is much larger - more of a courtyard with a table, chairs and sun loungers. The bedroom boasts a four-poster bed, while the bathroom has a separate shower cubicle as well as a bath.

The dining room offers a good mix of western and Asian cuisine and there is also a funky little open-air bar to the side of the swimming pool, which is particularly inviting in the evenings.
