La Maison de l'Oasis Tighmert, Morocco - MTL001

Maison de l’Oasis is a luxury hotel in Tighmert in southern Morocco.

Experience traditional Berber life in style
Luxury hotel on the old Timbuktu caravan route
Two houses traditionally constructed in Berber style
Near the ancient Amtoudi agadir

This set of two beautiful Berber houses, nestled in the lush Tighmert palm grove, is part of the Dar Ahlam stable, and is one of the stop offs on their ‘La Route du Sud’, which takes in stunning hotels in remote, beautiful locations throughout the south of the country.

Tighmert is a remote desert oasis, where traditional Berber ways of life continue apace relatively untouched by tourism. The hotel is constructed in keeping with its surroundings, with adobe walls and traditional woodwork, while radiating a luxurious air.

Rooms at Maison de l'Oasis
Each of the two houses features a shaded porch seating area, built from wood and canvas; a living room, with comfortable sofas and beautiful black-and-white photography on the walls; and an en-suite bathroom. The houses are luxurious while remaining faithful to traditional Berber design, with adobe walls, Moroccan lamps and Tataouine-style wooden ceilings.

As with all Dar Ahlam’s properties, the food at Maison de l’Oasis is delicious and traditional, and makes the most of regional produce and recipes. Local products which go into the food include Alfalfa bakoula, pomegranate vinegar and date caramel, and ingredients are often bought fresh from the local souk. Vegetables are grown onsite wherever possible.

Given the remote location, extra facilities are a bit thin on the ground, but the houses themselves are supremely comfortable and have everything you could need, including running water, showers and baths.

A stay at Maison de l’Oasis allows you to experience traditional, rural Berber life away from the tourist crowds and experience the peace and beauty of the oasis of Tighmert. Nearby Amtoudi is home to one of the best preserved agadirs (granaries) in Morocco, which dates back 800 years; here, you can enjoy a picnic lunch while admiring the impressive views of the agadir and the countryside beyond. The peaceful Akka palm grove also makes for a pleasant excursion.
