The luxurious, dreamy Malika is the very epitome of a ‘bolthole’: relaxing, secluded, safe and serene. It’s especially good in summer, when herb scents flavour the air and breezes keep you cool. The nearby – but unheard – main road continues up to the spectacular Tiz’n’Test pass, or back to Marrakech, its markets and madness somehow only an hour away.

ROOMS: All close to the large pool, Malika’s eight light-flooded, air-conditioned rooms mix North African traditional style with art deco and vintage : think earthy tones, large tiled bathrooms, comfy beds, flatscreen TVs. There’s 1 standard room and 5 premium rooms, 1 lodge with a private garden and a private berber tent, 1 junior suite which has two terraces and can sleep up to 3.

FACILITIES: Mining the vegetable garden, orchard and local markets, Malika’s restaurant does creative and delicious cuisine (try the honeyed cream with lavender and saffron). Meals are served candlelit in the gardens or indoors by a fireplace; either way, book before 11am on the day. Also available are half-day cookery courses, and guided hiking, biking, horse-riding and 4x4 excursions to Berber villages and the mountains. A wellness centre provides massage and treatments using local products.
