Atlas Mountains visit is the best trip even if you are only there for a few days, however there are a number of other worthwhile day-trips. As mentioned earlier, the souks are best done by foot and we can organise a registered guide. To see the gardens and the other sites you can just get in a taxi but another option we offer is a driver for a half-day City Tour to take you around, dropping you off at the main sites. This is around £40 per person for 2 or as little as £30pp for a larger group and is a relaxing way to tick off the main sights including the Saadian Tombs, the Bahia Palace, the Palmeraie and the Majorelle Gardens. Total time allowed is 3 hours and starts at either 9am or 2pm to avoid the hottest part of the day picking up and dropping off at your riad.
A spectacular treat is a Balloon Ride on the outskirts of Marrakech. A (frighteningly) early start to get the calmest conditions but what a way to welcome a new day…Cost is around £220 per person. Extras include champagne for the romantics and having an exclusive flight for about double the normal rate. Don’t forget a jumper, sun bloc, camera…. and to hold tight when you land. The day includes transport, breakfast and a tour of the places you have flown over after landing.
We have a number of adrenalin boosting activities such as dune buggying from the Palmeraie (£80pp for half day), paragliding (£120 for 2 hours) and jet-skiing (£120 for an hour). The last two are based above and in the Lake Takerkoust area around 45 minutes south-west of Marrakech. There is also a lovely restaurant close to the lake called Capaldi (0600 02 02 00) which is great for lunches and combining with activities.
Finally we offer some longer day trips to surrounding areas including Essaouira (in my view a long day – much better to stay a couple of nights and appreciate the nicest town in Morocco properly!). Also day trips to the waterfalls at Ouzoud and the film studios and the Kasbahs of Ait Ben Haddou are possible but again they entail a lot of driving so please discuss with us before committing.
