This self-drive trip is perfect for those who’d like to explore all of the Mayan magic that the Yucatan Peninsular has to offer.  You will visit the colonial town of Valladolid the capital of this state, Merida and the Caribbean coast. Taking cenotes and ruins and Haciendas along the way.

Your Itinerary

Day 1 - Welcome to Mexico

Today you arrive in  Cancun to collect your car and start your trip by heading to your hotel in Akumal.

Day 2 - Tulum Ruins

Today we recommend visit Tulum Mayan Port City Ruins, which sit overlooking the white sand beach and crystal clear blues waters of Tulum beach. You can then bathe in the Caribbean sea.

Day 3 - Akumal

Today you can visit some cenotes (which feel like something out of a movie!), these are swimming holes formed naturally by the collapse of porous limestone bedrock, this creates underground water pools. The Mayans revered cenotes because they were a source of water in dry times and cenotes means ‘sacred well’.

Day 3 - Akumal - Coba - Valladolid

Today you will enjoy the guided tour of the archeological site of Coba. The first one is located in the heart of Mayan Jungle and has the highest pyramid of the area. At the end of the visit, you can head to the colonial town of Valladolid, where you will spend the rest of the day and the night in one of the historical centre boutique hotels.

Day 4 - Ek Balam

Today you head to the ruins of Ek Balam. After you explore, you will be given bikes to cycle to the cenote used by the Mayans here to cool off. There are also a number of stunning cenotes to spend the rest of the day exploring around Valladolid. Alternatively if you feel you’ve met your quota of ruins you can head to Cenote Dzitnup and Cenote Xkeken or simply explore Valladolid.

Day 5 - Valladolid

After breakfast you can explore some more of the famous more cenotes that surround Valldolid. You’ll return for an evening of exploring  the colourful streets of laidback UNESCO-listed Valladolid.

Day 6 - Chichen Itza - Merida

At sunrise you can skip the crowds and visit the most important
Mayan ruins of the Yucatan Peninsula: Chichen Itza, known also as
“One of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World”.
Chichen Itza was one of the greatest Mayan centers of the Yucatan. It is one of the most important examples of the Mayan – Toltec civilization in the Yucatan. Afterwards you can visit one of the famous Cenotes in the area and later we will continue our trip to your hotel in Merida, capital town of the Yucatan State, where you can enjoy a walk downtown and delight with the traditional Mexican cuisine in a typical restaurant.

Day 7 - Merida - Uxmal - Merida

Early in the morning you will visit to the archeological site of Uxmal, the most important of “Ruta Puuc”, to discover its most famous temple “La Casa del Adivino” and learn about another Mayan era, their culture and traditions and the way they used to live. At the end of the visit you will return to the hotel and then enjoy a guided city tour, including visits to the historical centre and the popular Plaza Mayor y Casa de Montejo.

Day 8 - Home time

Today you travel home, with bronzed skin and full of memories and stories.
