Exploring Maldives

Summer in Sri Lanka & Maldives (April – Sep)

Follow the sun to the east coast in the summer time

If you want to visit Sri Lanka in May, June, July or September you are more restricted by the weather than at other times of year. Luckily however, while the rain falls on the west coast, the less visited east coast experiences blue skies and calm seas. You can combine a beach stay here with a few days in the Cultural Triangle, which is located in one of Sri Lanka’s dry zones and a tea plantation bungalow high in the hills which experiences rain all year anyway.

At the same time, it’s the relative ‘low season’ in the Maldives. Being a tropical climate it stays very warm, but during these months you are likely to experience rain and increased humidity – while also enjoying plenty of sunshine. It’s a good time of year to take advantage of cheaper prices, great surfing and some extra special marine life experiences such as turtles hatching on the beach and increased numbers of manta rays and whale sharks. We’ve chosen one of our favourite 5 star + resorts in the North Malé Atoll for you, but there are both cheaper and more expensive options we can discuss, plus alternative resorts more suited to families and groups.

This sample itinerary is designed to give you a taste of culture and rural life in Sri Lanka before a three night beach stay in the Maldives in an exquisite island villa. We can tailor this trip to you – increasing your time on the east coast of Sri Lanka, upgrading hotels or any other changes you see fit.
