At the edge of the Danum Valley Conservation Area, Kawag Nature Lodge provides an affordable and comfortable option for visiting the stunning Danum Valley region.
The Kawag forest is secondary rainforest, meaning it has been replanted after disturbance yet it's one of the most biodiverse areas of Sabah. Borneo pygmy elephants, wild cattle, orangutans, gibbons, monkeys, deer, bearded pigs, more than 150 species of bird, a wide array of insects, reptiles and amphibians have all been spotted in the region around Kawag Danum.
A stay includes a number of nature walks and safari drives as set forth in your itinerary. Early morning walks to the observation tower can be rewarding for birders and those who simply appreciate morning light. A dip at Ali Baba waterfall and river tubing on the Kawag River are great ways to cool off in the tropical rainforest.
Rooms are simple, seven with ceiling fans and twin beds plus thirteen with air conditioning that have either a queen or two single beds. All are en-suite with hot showers and an outdoor seating area. Meals are served buffet style and full board is included. The lodge is located approximately 80 minutes from Lahad Datu and transportation is provided in a 4WD vehicle.
Please note that we can only book a stay here as part of a fully tailor-made holiday.
As of 2022, the lodge has closed and is under new management. Re-opening date is not yet known.
