This stylish boutique hotel is one of the city's finest properties and sits just a short drive outside the centre of Vientiane. Built around a central swimming pool, it is a truly chic and tranquil retreat., while its traditional architecture and overhanging roofs make it one of the few hotels in Laos' capital to retain its original style. The lush palms and foliage make the tropical gardens of the hotel the perfect place to chill, whilst tinkling fountains create a peaceful soundtrack.

The 34 rooms are housed in wooden 2-storey buildings around the pool with sumptuous beds, antique furniture and beautiful polished wooden floors. They all have delightful balconies furnished with cushioned wooden chairs, which make a great spot for a pot of morning tea overlooking the lush gardens and pool. Bathrooms are roomy with a luxurious tub, fluffy towels, dressing gowns and slippers.

The 6 Classic rooms and 22 Deluxe rooms both have a living area with a table, 2 chairs and a TV, but in the Deluxe bathrooms, tubs have a glass panel behind, which looks out onto plants and Buddhist statues. Deluxe and Executive Suites are kitted out with more elaborate furniture including carved chaise longues and high-backed chairs as well as the added bonus of having a dining table and chairs. Both have a more luxurious, spacious bathroom, with a raised tub accessed by wooden steps, and a lovely little garden backdrop. The Executive Suites work well for small families as they have a second bedroom with a single bed and an ensuite shower bathroom.

There is also a restaurant and bar, with breakfast available to take away for those guests leaving early to go touring. The restaurant is located above the lobby bar (Dok Dala), and has a superb view over the marshy Nong Chan Park. Although you can eat inside, the tables on the terrace are great for an alfresco meal.

As well as the stunning outdoor pool, there is also massage, a spa, jacuzzi and gym. We love some of the extra little touches here including the afternoon tea that is served later in the day.

The hotel is a good 25-minute walk from town, so make use of the free shuttle bus to the city centre (every hour until 10.30pm), or borrow a bike (complimentary).
