If you want to stay in the heart of the city centre, the three-star Amir Hotel is a good choice. It’s simple, comfortable and a great base for sightseeing. Wander outside and in less than five minutes you can be in the city’s leafy Pobedy Park, exploring the memorials which commemorate the wartime efforts of Kyrgyz soldiers. It’s also only a 20-minute drive to the Karakol Ski Base – the highest ski resort in Central Asia.

The down-to-earth Amir Hotel has 18 rooms. Big windows give the rooms a light and airy feel and arty textiles add a splash of colour to the walls. All rooms have a private bathroom, comfortable beds, a flat-screen TV and Wi-Fi. Each morning, local Kyrgyz and classic European dishes are on the menu for breakfast. Lunch and dinner are also available on request. The service is fantastic, as are the helpful and friendly English-speaking staff.

After days spent hopping between the city sights or carving through the powder-white ski slopes of the Tien Shan mountains, the hotel’s Russian banya (steam bath) will be impossible to resist. Relax here and feel revitalised and refreshed, enjoying every moment of your Kyrgyzstan adventure.
