A stay at Sabuk Lodge is a remarkable experience. The accommodation is different, the safari is different, both are unforgettable. Sabuk is perched high above the gorge of the Ewaso Nyiro River and Laikipia Plateau of north central Kenya, just north of the equator.

There are 5 individually designed spacious cottages all with river views and all with en-suite bathrooms, modern toilets and a private veranda where you can relax, make friends with the friendly hyrax, spot wildlife and take drinks as the sun goes down. Each cottage is constructed using stone and ancient cedar and olivewood all from the local area. The river facing aspects of the cottages are open-sided which may seem rather daunting at first, but makes night-time magical as you feel close to nature yet safe within your own little haven.

The giant hand-carved beds are comfortable and have mosquito nets. There is no need for air-conditioning! Some cottages have large open air stone baths and taking a ‘natural’ bath in the privacy of your own room, yet with views over the plains is truly memorable.

Sabuk Lodge has recently added Eagle Cottage, a self-contained property suitable for families or friends wishing to share. Eagle Cottage comprises one double cottage and a separate twin/triple cottage, with their own 'mess' and plunge pool. They have their own butler, maid, and other mess staff.

There is also a lounge and dining area with a great wooden veranda overlooking the river. You can choose to eat at your own table or join other guests and swop stories about your day’s safari. Children particularly seem to enjoy this.

Safaris at Sabuk are an amazing experience. You can walk or take a camel. This enables you travel quietly and get right up close to giraffe, elephant zebra and various deer. The terrain is a wilderness and you will need the expert guidance of the Samburu guides who lead the safaris, sharing their vast knowledge of the bush and its flora and fauna. You can also fly-camp out in the wilderness for one or two nights.

There is a lovely (and fairly refreshing) swimming pool overlooking the plains, where you can relax after your day out before dinner. The food is excellent and plentiful. Nice extras include morning hot chocolate and cookies, afternoon tea and evening sundowners. A must is breakfast out in the wilderness, laid out by your guides and complete with tablecloth, cutlery and hot coffee!

Sabuk Lodge is reached by small propeller plane to Loisaba airstrip and then onward transfer by jeep.

Please note that prices include full board, all safaris and guides, airstrip and jeep transfer, fishing and fly-camping.
