In the truly magical city of Matera, perched atop the ancient city with a spectacular view across the curious cave dwellings of Sassi, lies this special boutique hotel. Decorated with beautiful antiques blended with modern art, the unique property is well-placed for exploring all of the sights and is a just a few steps away from the magnificent 13th-century Duomo. Whilst it isn’t in the heart of the atmospheric Sassi it has the benefit of being accessible by car (always a bonus!)
Given the nature of the historical building, each of the 20 rooms are slightly different from one another. Some have the distinct character of Matera’s limestone, others offer balconies framed by plush curtains. Calming white fabrics, classic Italian style and carefully chosen antique features complete the finish and provide a lovely place to stay. En-suite stone washrooms have either bathtubs and/or showers, and all rooms have AC and access to complimentary WiFi.
One of our favourite features of this hotel is the roof-terrace bar. Sit back with a cool cocktail and drink in the spectacular panoramic view across the Sassi. The restaurant, Le Bubbole, serves up delicious regional dishes and breakfast is served in the atmospheric setting of the underground wine cellars. The unique spa, located in the underground caves, offers a wonderful place to relax in the heated pool and indulge in a massage after a day of exploring the streets of Matera.
