Locanda Di San Martino boasts a great location in the centre of Matera. Walking out of the hotel you can step right in to the maze of narrow streets and cobbled walkways of the old town, opening out on to buzzing piazzas and an abundance of historic buildings, boutique shops and lovely restaurants and cafes. The hotel, typical of the buildings in the town which are set in to the caves, is built over various levels with one main body and separate dwellings located a maximum of 250m away from the main hotel, which houses rooms, suites ‘Cave Houses’.

The hotel has 40 rooms in total carved in to the stone caves and enjoying vaulted ceilings, rustic wooden furniture and decorated in lovely neutral tones. All rooms are very comfortable and have a feel of understated luxury, and no two are exactly the same. They are all en-suite and offer modern amenities such as wifi, AC and satellite TV. Suites and Junior Suites also have jacuzzi bathtubs. Many of the rooms open out on to stone patios and walkways, which feature various sitting areas overlooking the town, which are a lovely spot to enjoy a morning coffee or evening drink as the sun sets.

The two Cave Houses at the hotel, located separate to the main building around 75m away, are typical Sassi apartments each with their own independent access. Cave House 38 comprises of a living room, loft bedroom, kitchen and bathroom. Cave House 39 has similar facilities but on a slightly smaller scale.

Breakfast at Locanda Di San Martino is generous and delicious and is served in the main building. The hotel’s bar is a great spot for an evening cocktail before heading out in to town to dine at one of the many wonderful restaurants. A highlight of the property is the indoor spa facilities which features a heated pool, sauna and turkish bath. Various massages can also be arranged and access to the spa is for both guests and non-guests.

NB - parking directly at the hotel is not possible as it is located in the historical centre which has restricted access for cars. It is possible to park in a nearby garage for a fee, and a shuttle service can be arranged.
