Located in the unassuming and slightly industrial town of Cortemilia, the home of hazelnuts and the sublimely remote Alpine walking trails, is the ancestral home and Hotel, Villa San Carlo.
You will be welcomed into this unique and vintage hotel by Chef Carlo and his wife, who run the property as a true home away from home. Settle in with a welcome drink or head of for a swim during the summer months in the large pool nestled into the bottom of the well-tended gardens.
However, the reason to truly visit Hotel Villa San Carlo is the incredible talents of Chef Carlo himself. His restaurant brings people from all over the world and the passion he has for everything he makes is clear from each carefully thought out seasonal dish.
Now, all good food needs good wine and Chef Carlo has ensured that this is absolutely the case. His extensive wine cellar has won multiple awards and as a qualified Sommelier, he is on had for any guidance you may require. Not only that, but Chef Carlo will also take a guided tour of his cellar followed by a tasting for anyone looking to learn a little bit more.
To offset the amount of time you are likely to spend eating and drinking, you can explore the surrounding countryside either by foot or e-bike. There is also a small fitness suite on site as well as the large pool.
Although unlikely to spend too much time in them, the recently refurbished bedrooms are comfortable and functional. The breakfast spread contains all manner of local products, including some spectacular traditional cheeses and cold meats.
Lastly, if you are looking to leave Piedmont with a little extra knowledge, spend a morning with Chef Carlo himself, learning how to make some of the Piedmontese dishes you will have sampled during your stay. For any self-confessed foodie traveller, Villa San Carlo is the place of dreams.
