This historic hotel stands proudly on the banks of Lake Maggiore a short walk from the centre of Stresa, with uninterrupted views across the Borromean Islands. The main lake front road separates the hotel from the waterfront and both the ferry terminal and cable car is within walking distance. The hotel is full of character and has an air of opulent elegance of a bygone era. Rich colours, glittering chandeliers, heavy brocade fabrics, dark wood carved furniture and various historic artworks decorate the large spaces and the delightful staff provide a warm welcome and great service.

The hotel has 158 rooms, split across 95 lake facing rooms and 63 garden facing rooms, as well as 33 junior suites and 11 suites. Most have private balconies and a mixture of king beds or twin beds. All rooms are finished in a traditional style, with sumptuous fabrics, heavy drapes, thick carpets and dark wood furniture. Modern amenities can be found in all room categories including en-suite bathrooms, wifi, LCD TV and in rooms safes.

Grand Hotel Des Iles Borromees’s location is perfect for exploring both the lake and surrounding landscape, and both private and public ferry boat excursions can be arranged from the hotel. Guests and non-guests can dine at the hotel’s Il Borromeo restaurant, which offers a delicious take on local cuisine, and a highlight is taking your meal on terrace overlooking the sparkling lake (weather permitting). A generous breakfast is served every morning for all in house guests.

The hotel has a spa, swimming pool and fitness space. The gym area, although a little dated, is very spacious and perfect for those feeling extra active! Please note that as of October 2019, the spa and swimming pool is undergoing an extensive renovation and upgrade work and will be ready for guests to enjoy when the hotel re-opens in March 2020.

NB - this hotel closes for winter each year.
