Piedmont offers a different flavour to the rest of Italy. This northwestern Italian region is famously home to the white truffle and this is reflected in the indulgent local dishes. Bordering Switzerland and France, you’ll find a definite cultural-culinary fusion. You will even be able to get your hands on cheese fondue in some restaurants! The region (more specifically Carlo Petrini) pioneered the ‘Slow Food’ movement in 1986, in an attempt to preserve local food and cultural traditions. Despite the propensity towards slow-cooking here, there are some new-generation chefs who have been injecting some of the lighter ingredients back onto the menu. Many argue that Piedmont is the gastronomic heart of Italy. Why not find out for yourself, as you enjoy life in the slow lane for a while?

DAY 1 - Feast your eyes...

…on some of the most beautiful scenery in Italy. The Alps are wonderfully contrasted by swathes of rustic vineyards. Not to mention the fairytale-like medieval villages dotted about the Langhe region. You’ll be staying in La Morra to begin with, as this is an excellent base from which to explore the local restaurants, cafes and sights on foot.

Day 2 - Get acquainted

Today is free for you to explore your new surroundings… The famous cedar tree is worth a visit and La Morra itself is very picturesque. So pack your camera! For dinner this evening we recommend the Michelin starred restaurant called Bovio, which is just a 10-minute walk from your hotel. You won’t regret it…

Day 3 - Pamper yourself

Today calls for a bit of pampering and we have just the place! You will enjoy a spa day at the luxurious Relais San Maurizo Hotel, a former  ancient XVII century monastery, where people and nature lived together in peace and harmony.

Day 4 - Read, Steady, Cook!

Today you will enjoy a private cookery class with a local chef. You will enjoy one-on-one tips on how to create some of tastiest dishes synonymous with this region. And they feast on your creations for lunch! You’ll leave with a full belly and some exciting new recipes.

Day 5 - Sweet tooth

Today you will pander to your sweet tooth at the Banca Del Vino (a.k.a The Wine Bank). Here you will take part in the chocolate pairing workshop. One Amarone, one Barolo, one sweet wine and one grappa: find out the best match with the chocolate! Not too much of a taxing job. You will then continue on to your new hotel in the stunning Benevello. Enjoy a cocktail in the courtyard this evening.

Day 6 - Truffle huntin'

Today you will set off with your trifulau (truffle hunter)in search of the famous truffle. You will learn all about its habitat and the history of this underground mushroom. Following your truffle hunting experience with the dog (about 1 hour) you will visit a
winery for some more information on the history and production process of this highly sought after ingredient. You’ll get the chance to taste some of the wines produced here as well, over a platter of cold cuts and cheeses.

Day 7 - Until next time

After an Italian style breakfast this morning, you will check out of your hotel and make your way back to the airport in time for your flight home. We recommend stopping via Alba, Neive and Asti.
