Puglia Farm-to-Fork

Your Itinerary

Day 1 - Fresh air and fresh food!

We recommend flying into Brindisi airport as this masseria is just a 30-minutes’ drive away. Either you can rent a hire car, or we can arrange a private transfer. Upon arrival at the masseria, you will find yourself surrounded by 100 hectares of bountiful farmland, with olive groves, almond and palm trees. You will be greeted with a welcome aperitif featuring organic vegetables fresh from the garden! Enjoy a unique stay at this C17th century property, where stylish rooms are filled with artisan products. This evening we recommend dining at the masseria’s highly-acclaimed farm-to-fork ‘bio-restaurant’ and settle into your eco-friendly hotel. We can arrange wine and olive oil tastings during your stay.

Day 2 - Learn from the Chef

Wake up to the sound of nature and the first full day of your holiday which promises to be filled with relaxation, wellness, real food and excellent wines. Breakfast comes straight from the farm, as you’ll be served up a feast of homemade jams, cheese, eggs, vegetables and fruit galore. A hearty breakfast is the best way to start the day! At 11am, you will join a cooking class on site, where you’ll have the opportunity to learn how to make ‘orecchiette pasta’, stuffed aubergines, baked potatoes with rice and mussels, almond cookies – the kind of dishes Apulian grandmothers cook every day! Each recipe uses fresh ingredients from the garden and will be enjoyed with your chef over a few glasses of local wine at the end of the class. The rest of the day is free to relax at the masseria – there are two swimming pools, an outdoor gym, bikes and many walking routes. This evening you may wish to venture out to the pretty nearby town of Oria, which has lots of lovely cafes and restaurants, and has famously good ice cream, cookies and almond milk!

Day 3 - Beaches and National Parks

Today is at leisure to enjoy as you wish. You may want to head to the beach, a few of which are just a 20-minutes drive away. Or, a 30-minute drive away, you can visit the natural parks of Torre Colimena, an off-the-beaten track area, populated by reptiles, amphibians and pink flamingos. This afternoon, why not indulge in a wellness treatment at the masseria’s olive oil spa for the ultimate pampering.

Day 4 - Potter about

After breakfast today, you will drive 20-minutes to the famous Puglian ‘City of Ceramics’, Grottaglie, where you will be in vibrant pottery heaven! On our 2-hour tour you will visit the ceramics headquarter and explore the history of artisanal ceramics. You will also visit the laboratory so that you can see how they paint this beautiful ceramics. If you want to get hands-on with a pottery wheel, then we can arrange this for you too! There will also be plenty of shopping opportunities if you wish to bring back a special piece of Puglia. For those looking for a little romance this evening, then we can book you a candlelit, 6-course tasting menu at the masseria…

Day 5 - Take the plunge!

Along the coastline between Lecce and Otranto there is Roca Vecchia and its natural caves. Here the water has the deepest blue colour, the cliffs are high and diving is only for those brave enough. Bring flip flops and towels: Grotta della Poesia is a huge natural pool, filled with saltwater arriving through a small channel which connects it to the sea. Prepare for the most amazing swim of your life! If you fancy it, keep driving onto Ortranto and explore the ancient city centre with its fortified castle and walls. After a busy day out, retreat back to your child-free and serene masseria, where you can sit down for a glass of local wine with the owners and learn all about what makes Puglian wine so delicious…

Day 6 - Cheese and wine time!

Puglia is the region of mozzarella, burrata and stracciatella cheeses. It is dotted with dairy farms producing cow and sheep cheeses. If you are a cheese lover like us, then you can’t miss the chance to visit a cheese factory. You will learn how mozzarella is made but most importantly you will get to taste a freshly-made delicious and warm mozzarella. You will then visit a family-run winery in Manduria for a wine-tasting and light lunch. Depending on what time of year you are visiting, the masseria hosts a weekly BBQ out in the vegetable garden, celebrating organic produce and warm weather on a long communal farm table!

Stay at a traditional masseria for a homemade experience you wont’ forget.

Puglia is a pretty progressive part of Italy in terms of its use of eco-tourism, organic produce and sustainability. There is no better way to experience the best of farm-to-fork living than staying in a traditional masseria (in this case a C17th converted farmhouse), where you can eat, breathe and sleep in a holistic and sustainable way. We have worked with one of our favourite masseria’s in Puglia on this bio-itinerary which celebrates real food, great wine and rustic luxury. This is an adults-only resort and there are no televisions in the rooms, so a digital detox is on the cards… and we promise that you’re going to feel just great for it! A week spent in the romantic Puglian countryside, amongst olive groves and fig trees, with meals plucked straight from the garden and wine from the barrel.

Located between Oria and Manduria, with stunning Salento beaches and crystal-clear waters within 20-minutes’ drive… You might as well start booking your flights now!
