Langhe and Lakes

Your Itinerary

Day 1 - Your Italian Adventure Begins…

Welcome to Italy. After your arrival, grab your hire car and take the scenic route to the Hotel Langhe. Spend the rest of the day settling in, take a swim in their pool and a gentle stroll into the heart of Alba.

Day 2 - Take a Spin

What better way to take in the incredible Langhe countryside than to cycle through it? Today you will embark on a guided e-bike tour of the region, stopping for a delicious local lunch and exploring hidden gems sought out by your knowledgeable guide. The extra power of the e-bike gives you a nice helping hand to climb those hills!

Day 3 - The Wine Route

You cannot come to Piedmont without sampling their famous Barolo and Barbaresco wines! Today you will visit two very different wineries for tastings and tours. Driving between the two, you can stop in Barbaresco to visit the medieval tower, the largest in the region. You cannot beat the views from here on a clear day!

Day 4 - Relax and Explore

Settle into the leisurely Italian way of life and spend today at your leisure. You may be in need of a pool day, or perhaps a visit to Alba to take at look at their spectacular architecture… and grab a quick gelato whilst you are there.

Day 5 - Going on a Hunt…

This morning you will embark on a hunt for the region’s most famous (and elusive) delicacy – the truffle! Season depending, you will be joined by your hunter guide and his trusty dog to try and uncover the white, brown or black truffle. Good Luck!

Day 6 - To the Lakes!

Continue your journey through Piedmont arriving at spectacular Lago Maggiore today. Your adventure on the lake starts right away with a ferry boat transfer to the charming Isola dei Pescatori where you will be staying for the next two nights! A member of the Borromean Islands, this tiny island, also known as ‘fishermen’s island’, is full of character and overflows with lovely little shops, cafe’s and rustic restaurants whilst enjoying the most wonderful view across to the shores of Lake Maggiore.

Day 7 - Explore life on the lake!

Today is a full day to explore the Borromean Islands and the charming town of Stresa, on the banks of Lake Maggiore. The regular ferry service is a great way to move between the islands and shore, and we recommend visiting Isola Bella, which is dominated by its  spectacular Baroque Palace and opulent Italian landscaped gardens. Later, stroll through the lanes of Stresa, taking in the pretty streets and little boutique shops perhaps stopping for a typical Italian aperitif. Enjoy dinner in town at a traditional Taverna serving authentic rustic cuisine. Yummy!

Day 8 - Mount Mottarone

Part of what makes the lakes so spectacular is the dramatic backdrop of the mountains. Today you will journey up to Mottarone to experience life up in the mountains for yourself. Spend the next two nights staying in the very special Villa Pizzini, a beautiful restaurant with just 3 rooms. The villa is owned and operated by the wonderful Ivan and Sabina, who have a huge passion for food, wine and the great outdoors. Breathe in the fresh mountain air with a scenic walk this afternoon, building up an appetite for a delicious evening meal at the villa. Ivan and Sabina’s menus, with a focus on local seasonal produce and homemade food, and carefully curated wine cellar provide a memorable dining experience!

Day 9 -

Roll up your sleeves, tie up your apron and get ready to learn the basics of pasta making from the expert at Villa Pizzini! Enjoy a 1.5 hour session learning the art of making some of the best simple pastas with the freshest local ingredients, covering favourites such as Lasagne, Tagliatelle and Pappardelle. After all of your hard work, enjoy a typical Italian aperitif at the villa with a delicious glass of something bubbly! Spend the remainder of the day enjoying the mountain air as you wish, before your final dinner at the villa. Saluti!
