Periyar Forest Bungalow offers you a chance to get away from it all and stay in a private estate deep within the nature reserve itself. The accommodation is simple but comfortable and is a stylish lodge overlooking a small stream and the jungle beyond. For nature lovers it is perfect being right in the outdoors and not even having to leave your balcony or garden to see numerous animals. It is common to see elephants who come to the stream below the bungalow as well as Gaurs, Sambars and numerous other small and large animals.

The building is made from stone and timber with an upper floor consisting of 3 rooms and a wide viewing verandah. All rooms are spacious and have private en-suite facilities although quite simple bathrooms. Good wholesome food is included when staying at the bungalow made from locally sourced ingredients and cooked by the resident chef.

The property is deep within the reserve and so there are some practical aspects about staying here. Traffic is only permitted between 0600 and 1800 due to the Forest Department regulations. There are no commercial establishments like shops and restaurants in the area with the nearer decent shop being an hour away. Due to this, meals are restricted to what can be farmed on the estate and what is available in this town.

Electricity and communications cannot be relied upon and there is no mobile coverage and certainly no wifi. If there is a power failure, then there is a back-up generator until 10pm and then from 0530am until light. Torches will be provided in all the rooms.

The property is surrounded by thick jungle and you get to see a variety of wildlife. This does mean that jungle noises will be heard around the clock, the jungle never sleeps! You may also hear the civets and monkeys on the roof at night but you are completely secure with sealed rooms and netting on all doors and windows!

This is a great place to experience nature and a truly unique property right in the heart of the reserve!
