When travelling with toddlers or babies we realise you need plenty of time, space and freedom, activities to keep them occupied but allowing you to explore the best of what Iceland has to offer, family- friendly rooms or apartments and to keep car journey times to a minimum (although these are ideal nap times). We’ve got you covered! As with all our itineraries this is just a suggestion and we can tailor the itinerary to suit you. You can choose to opt for a driver/guide or go for the self-drive option.
Welcome to Iceland!
Collect your car at Keflavik airport and visit the nearby ‘giantess cave’ at Keflavik which is geared towards toddlers and little ones, explore a Lighthouse and bypass the Blue Lagoon, spending time at the waterpark at Reykjanesbaer instead (more suited to all the family). Drive the short distance to Gunnuhver mud pools and spring and then take in those amazing sea-cliff formations jutting out of the ocean and Reykjanes peninsula for that Land’s End feeling. If time allows, visit the Krysuvik geothermal area and a lava tube, walk the ‘bridge between continents’ and visit the Stapar crater row.
Continue onto Reykjavik where you will spend the next 2 nights.
There’s something for all the family at Reykjavik Saga Museum, the Viking Maritime Museum or the live Lava Show (only one of its kind). Visit HallgrÃmskirkja church take in the views from the top.  Sample the best hot dog in Reykjavik. Visit the Natural History Museum and Tjorninn – the iconic lake in downtown Reykjavik. Do what the locals do and spend some time at Sundhöllin or Vesturbaejarlaug public baths with their numerous pools, hot tubs and waters slides. Reykjavik Family Park and Zoo is a must and is home to farm animals, arctic foxes, reindeer and seals, plus a few exotic animals. Visit the Grótta lighthouse and unwind at NauthólsvÃk Geothermal Beach.
Drive up to the small village and fjord, Borgafjordur Eystri north of Reykjavik. Visit the lava fields, hot springs, historical sites and beaches. The town of Borgarnes has a lovely pool and nice restaurants and features prominently in Icelandic folklore. Take your toddler(s) for some cuddles at Haafell goat farm.
Stay at Hotel Husafell or one of the holiday cottages for the next 2 nights. Take advantage of the hotel’s own geothermal baths.
This morning, explore VÃðgelmir, Iceland’s largest lava cave and go ‘Into the Glacier’ for an ice tunnel/cave tour and get out on the glacier itself.Â
Later on  visit the beautiful Hraunfossar waterfall situated close to Hotel Husafell.
Explore the infamous Golden Circle taking in Gulfoss waterfall (the most powerful waterfall in Europe, the infamous Geysir and Strokkur geysers and Thingvellir National Park. Your route will take you to 5 other beautiful sites and villages. Have lunch at a greenhouse with a twist and visit an (Icelandic) horse breeding farm.Â
Visit Bruarfoss waterfalls, a dairy farm which offers the best ice cream, Skyr and feta. Why not unwind at Fontana (wellness) geothermal baths?! You could extend your stay and spend 2 nights in The Golden Circle.
Stay at Hotel Stracta which has rooms and apartments.
Continue onto the south coast and take in the stunning and unique waterfall of Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss, plus a hidden waterfall! Drive the Thorsmork road to a beautiful hidden ravine and waterfall and hop across the stream with your little ones via the stepping stones. Â Go for a short walk behind the museum at Skogar (you often have the area to yourself – we will tell you where to go!Â
Spend the night at Katla Hotel.
This morning, explore the picturesque town of Vik with its beautiful traditional wooden church, visit the famous black beach (filming scene – Game of Thrones) of Reynisfjara with its basalt columns (which children love playing on). We can direct you to the lesser known black beaches and maybe venture up onto the Cape of Dyrholaey with its staggering views, birdlife and beautiful old lighthouse.Â
Journey back to Reykjavik and relax  at Alda Hotel.
This morning, return your hire car and fly home with some incredible memories of this unique island!
