Snowmobiling is a thrilling experience particularly in Iceland as its many glaciers make snowmbiling possible all year round. Moreover, you will most likely be snowmobiling on top of active volcanoes as most of them are covered in glacial ice. It’s quite a special feeling when you realised you are racing across a glacial ice sheet hundreds of meters thick with a volcano rumbling beneath. If you are visiting the south of Iceland, you could snowmobile on Eyjafjallajokull, Myrdalsjokull or Vatnajokull glacier. During the winter months these locations are sometimes only accessible via Superjeep (Icelandic Monster Truck/Van) which makes the excursion even more exciting. The most popular place to snowmobile in Iceland is Langjokull as it is only a 2 hour drive from Reykjavik.
Season: All year round
My Advice: If you have time to visit the south, go snowmobiling on Eyjajallajokull or Vatnajokull; the views can be incredible or you can experience a complete ‘whiteout’ like we did which was exciting in its own right!
