Exploring Iceland

Kayaking and SUP

Stand Up Paddle Board

Choose from 3 incredible locations to paddleboard:

  • The Forgotten Fjord, Hvalfjordur (Whale Fjord) one of the longest and most beautiful fjords in Iceland – 1hr from Reykjavik
  • The Snaefesllness Peninsula – mystical, 100km peninsula in the West of Iceland (full-day adventure as you will stop at various iconic places en route)
  • Reykjvavik City and Sunset Tour – paddleboard around Faxafloi bay and experience the best ‘midnight’ sunset at Grotta Lighthouse and the panaromic views over the bay.

Requirement: Suitable for all levels of paddle-boarders

My Advice: I loved paddle-boarding across the Forgotten Fjord. It’s so peaceful and you may see a golden eagle or two nesting on one of the islands (we didn’t get too close). A seal also surfaced within a few feet of me to see who/what I was. Don’t get too cocky if you’re an experienced paddleboarder and stand up if it gets a bit choppy when everyone else kneels down as they’ll have the last laugh when you tumble in and you’re the one with the camera on the front of your board!

Season: All year round but dependent on weather/conditions.

Kayaking

There are plenty of places to kayak around Iceland but our favourite trips are kayaking amongst icebergs in The Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon and in the Westfjords off Isafjordur.

Season: Trips on the Jokularslon Glacier Lagoon take place all year round but will depend on conditions.

Kayaking in Isafjordur is from the spring through to the autumn due to the Westfjords often being inaccessible during winter.
