The opening of The Retreat in 2018 completed a significant expansion at the Blue Lagoon. Incorporating a private geothermal lagoon, subterranean spa, an exquisite restaurant, 62 suites encircled by the mineral-rich waters of the lagoon, the Retreat is a sanctuary where guests can ‘leave the world behind and enter a timeless realm of rejuvenation, relaxation and exploration’.

Carefully preserving the bond between man and nature, volcanic features and rock have been incorporated into the design of the hotel and are present throughout the Retreat. The interior is one of timeless sophistication that endeavours to establish a human connection to an extraordinary environment. When you walk into The Retreat, you do not leave nature behind, rather you go deeper into nature. The atmosphere is informal and welcoming and upon arrival you will be allocated an attendant who will be there to guide and advise you throughout your stay.

Suites
The suites are arranged on two levels and encircled by the revitalizing warmth of the lagoon. All suites have a terrace, some of which open directly onto the lagoon. The second floor suites have terraces which look out onto the volcanic horizon. There are 6 different types of suite ranging from 40 to 200 square meters in size; Lava View Junior Suite, Lagoon View Junior Suite, Moss Junior Suite (2nd floor), Moss Suite (2nd floor) and Lagoon Suite. Spread over 2 floors covering 230 square meters, featuring 2 bedrooms and bathrooms, a vast living area and kitchen, a personal butler, private lagoon, spa, sauna and steamroom and unparalleled views.

    Set and a la carte menus feature dishes and ingredients from farmlands to the mountains and the rivers to the oceans. Every dish explores the diverse delights and heritage of Icelandic cuisine. Moss restaurants menus are mercurial; they are intrinsically bound to the land yet change with each season.

    This seven course gourmet journey will take you from the traditional to the reinvented. Local, fresh, seasonal ingredients feature in traditional dishes that are transformed. You will be seated on a lava rock bar-style table close to the kitchen ensuring an interactive experience.

    Wine Cellar
    Descend into a volcanic cave and sample Old World wines such as Bordeaux and Burgundy, from classic vineyards in Italy, Spain & Germany as well as growers from the New World. Wine tasting can be arranged for individuals or small groups.

    Spa Treatments
    Each spa treatment culminates with The Blue Lagoon Ritual where your body will be treated to 3 separate masks of silica, algae and other minerals. You can further enhance your experience with an in-water massage.

    Exploration and Excursions
    Explore the Reykjanes peninsula in a luxury vehicle with guide, including Gunnuvher hot springs and stopping at nearby Grindavik, experience Iceland from the sky with a private helicopter ride, drive across black sand beaches on ATVs.
