Hotel Egilsen was built by a local prominent figure, Egil Egilsson, 150 years ago and was renovated and transformed into a charming small hotel in 2012. The distinctive red building is situated by the harbour in the quaint fishing village of Stykkisholmur on the Breiðafjörður bay.

The building's classic heritage has been preserved but cleverly fused with some contemporary elements throughout creating the perfect balance between old and new. The lounge is the heart of the hotel and entices guests to delve into one of the many books from the library or have a drink and mingle with locals or other guests.

Rooms The 10 bedrooms are spread across 3 floors and are bright and cosy. The design scheme is based on the sea and celebrates the village's main industry, fishing. Each room is en-suite and features an overhead power shower, iPad, and blankets by the Icelandic design company Vík Prjónsdóttir. The hotel uses only COCO-MAT beds which are made from natural materials such as natural rubber, wool, coco fibre, cotton, sea grass, horsehair, silk linen, wood and goose down, all from renewable sources. Amenities include:
