Your Itinerary

Day 1 -

After your arrival in Sofia, you will have a transfer to your hotel in Sofia for the first overnight.

Today no meals are included.

Day 2 -

After breakfast you will have a 2-hour transfer to your riding base in Purvenets, at the foot of the Rodopi mountains. Here you meet the horses. Today you will do a loop-like ride, passing along the Red Church – a late Roman basilica. After the ride you have a transfer back to Plovdiv, where you can enjoy the old quarters of the town. Here you will stay at a hotel for the overnight.

Today breakfast and lunch is included and 4-5 hours of riding.

*Optional wine tasting in the Todoroff wine residence, Brestovitsa village.

Day 3 -

Today you start in Purvenets again, this time heading south and up in the mountains, to reach Bryanovshtitsa Hut and then continue to the small resort of Varhovruh where your stay overnight in a small mountain hotel.

Today all meals are included and 5 hours of riding.

Day 4 -

After breakfast you will continue your ride, passing through several tiny villages. Following Varhovrah ridge with great panorama views, to reach Persenk hut. Here you will stop for lunch. After horses and riders are refreshed, you continue to the village of Lyaskovo where you stay for the night with a local family.

Today all meals are included and 6 hours of riding.

Day 5 -

After breakfast you mount your horse again and from Lyaskovo you head up to Chudnite Mostove (Miraculous Bridges). A unique rock formation. After a nice lunch break,  the trek continues through pine forests and vast meadows to Orehovo village. Here will be your  stay at a family run hotel.

Today all meals are included and 6 hours of riding.

Day 6 -

After breakfast you will be heading direction Bash Mandra where you can stop for lunch.

Now that rider and horses are refreshed, you continue to the village of Dedevo where you will stay at a bungalow, two rooms sharing WC/shower.

Today all meals are included and 5 hours of riding.

Day 7 -

Today the ride takes you to the village of Purvenets where you say goodbye to the horses and drive back to Sofia for the last night.

*Optional visit to Bachkovski Monastery in the afternoon. Bachkovo Monastery is established in the beginning of XI century and is the second largest Bulgarian Monastery nowadays. An early start of the day, if Bachkovo Monastery will be visited, is recommended.

Today breakfast and lunch are included and 6 hours of riding.

Day 8 -

After breakfast it is time for check-out. Should you have an afternoon flight, you can stroll around the streets of Sofia and maybe buy some souveniers.

Who can come:
  • Confident intermediate and experienced riders
  • The horses on riding holidays work hard week after week and even with regular breaks and good tack it is hard work for them, therefore the maximum weight is 187lb (85kg). Though an experienced rider, who may exceed the weight limit, may ride very light on the horse’s back. So, please do check with us first.

The Rhodopes mountains & river gorges, occupying the southern part of Bulgaria and part of Greece, are the homeland of the mythological singer Orpheus. This ride spends 6 days of riding in these enchanting nature. The land of high peak mountains & deep river gorges. Unique rock formations scatter the mountains with lush meadows and dense forests.

The rides take place in the western part of the Rhodopes. The trail offers a variety of terrains. For this reason, you can experience of all types of riding and paces. You will visit remote villages, stay with local people enjoying their hospitality. Local food and excellent wines will be served. You will also spend some time in Plovdiv – Europe’s oldest inhabited city and European Capital of Culture.
