The Cuban art and performance scene is unique in whole Latin America because of the broad support of Fine Arts by the socialist Cuban government. The extraordinary creativity of its protagonists is also reflected in renowned art events such as the „Biennal“, which takes place every 2 years in Havana. Our tour starts in the morning with a visit to a training session of the internationally renowned ballet „Liszt Alfonso“ or (alternative) of the symphonic orchestra „Camerata Romeu“, whose 16 - 20 female musicians are combining Afro-Cuban rhythms with classic symphonic music in a very spectacular and unique way. Further on to Miramar/Playa, where Fidel Castro and Che Guevara during their first and only golfparty spontaneously decided to convert a „capitalist“ American golf course into a „socialist“ centre for arts and culture by building the national art schools ISA and ENA. The wide campus with its green lawns and its impressing round temples, created by Italian and Cuban architects Gottardi/Garatti/Porro, is among the most beautiful in the world – a unique source of inspiration for the young art students, who will also show you their musical skills during a small performance, which might cause you some „goose bumps“..., before you continue to the dancing section where young talents move their elastic bodies to Afro-Cuban rhythms under the strict instructions of their trainers. Enjoy your lunch in Vedado at the gallery of a young Cuban avant-garde art cooperative. During a refreshing “Mojito” director Arian Irsula will explain to you the works of his young colleagues and give you an insight into the exciting Havana art-scene. Finally back to Old Havana, where on a guided tour through the Museo de Bellas Artes you will see the classic Cuban masterpieces.
