The Alta Hotel is located in the western part of San Jose on the hills of the alto de las palomas overlooking the countries central valley with volcanoes and mountains in the distance. Located just 15 minutes from San Jose airport and 30 minutes from the San Jose downtown it is the perfect base for either starting or ending your trip.

This is a small boutique hotel with 23 rooms and suites which all have large balconies, so you can enjoy extensive views of the surrounding hills. They are airy whitewashed rooms with terracotta tiles and wooden furnishings. The suites have a living room which can be made into an extra bedroom for children or is perfect if you are looking for more space. From the master suite you may get glimpses of the Pacific Ocean as well as having a lovely Jacuzzi bath to relax in.

The restaurant at The Alta is called La Luz and is a highly rated restaurant in San Jose so we recommend eating here during your stay. The food is a combination of Mediterranean cuisine with Costa Rican produce which comes directly from the hotels farm 5km from the hotel itself. The service runs from 6:30am - 10pm.

Additionally, to the above there is an outdoor pool and fitness centre in the property as well as having Wi-Fi throughout and TV and air-conditioning in all the rooms.

We think this is a great start to a holiday when arriving into Costa Rica, being slightly out of the city with a swimming pool and gardens to relax in but just a short drive from the airport.
