‘Makanda’ gets it’s name from the Sanskrit word for nectar, and is said to be the place that paradise was originally found. And it is hard to argue that the name is misplaced when you are bathing in the beautiful salt-water infinity pool, looking at the jungle canopy teeming with wildlife just meters away, and beyond that the beautiful blue waves lapping at the golden sand. The proximity of the canopy and the coast is a big factor in what makes this place especially well suited to absolute relaxation, and the mood of the place is certainly geared towards a luxuriously slow pace to life, with a gentle amble enough to take you between the pool, beach, bar, spa, or jungle in moments.
Makanda’s modern, stylish design compliments the incredible natural surroundings well, and means that the amenities are all to a modern, comfortable standard, and despite the proximity of the wildlife, their is no compromise on luxury. With 13 rooms and suites in total, there is a real feeling of exclusivity at this property, with each suite or villa being separate from its neighbours. All rooms offer dazzling ocean and forest views, vaulted ceilings, handcrafted tiles, and open-air living areas. whilst all of the rooms are luxurious, there is a range, with a few of the villas having private pools and hot tubs.
The hotel offers delicious haut cuisine dining, focusing on local produce, especially seafood, the menu combines local dishes with western influences. Breakfast is provided to the guests in their own room, which is a great touch, and the lunch menu provides a good range of lighter dishes and snacks. The restaurant itself is wonderfully embedded in the forest, with the diners surrounded by the sounds and smells of the jungle.
There is also a delightful spa on site, but slightly separated, and the private terrace overlooking the bay is the perfect spot for relaxations and recuperation. along with a range of massage treatments and different therapies there is also a big jacuzzi and natural wood steam-room, and the opportunity for yoga classes upon demand.
Makanda is also a great base for activities due to its proximity to Manuel Antonio natural park, with everything that that has to offer, such as hiking, fishing, wildlife watching, white-water rafting, kayaking, mountain biking, surfing or horse-riding.
All in all, if you are looking for a lovely, luxurious place to relax, or a base for more strenuous activities, Makanda is a great option
