Lapa Rios Lodge is a sustainable lodge which protects 1,000 acres of Central America’s last remaining lowland rainforest where you can find iconic frogs and macaws, endangered monkeys and over 300 bird species.

The property is poised high on a hillside with 16 cabinas which look down on the Pacific Ocean and primary rainforest. You reach the rooms via a steep path from the main building and all of them have their own secluded balcony making them feel very private.

There are 14 cabins which are all the same with either 2 Queen-sized beds or 1 King-Sized bed. There are then two smaller cabins – one has a wider deck and the other has a wraparound deck and 2 sofa beds as well as a king size bed so good for families.

All of the cabins have high pitched ceilings of palm thatch which make them feel spacious and luxurious. They are open on three sides, screened with mosquito nets and have two fans to keep the place cool. Floors are wooden, and the furnishings are bespoke and made from sustainable bamboo. The beds are draped with mosquito beds and have a romantic feel to them. The headboard acts as a half wall and hosts two sinks and there are two showers – one hot and one rainhead shower of cold water. The water comes from Lapa Rios’ own spring and is regularly tested. There are plenty of hanging spaces are you are encouraged to keep everything off the floor, so no creatures get in – you are in the rainforest after all!

Each room as its own terrace with an outdoor shower, reclining chairs, a hammock, bamboo chairs and a table. Luxury comforts come from the white fluffy towels and toiletries which are organic and biodegradable.

All meals here are included in your rate and are eaten in the main building overlooking the valley below. The food is organic and locally sources to support farmers and growers in the region.

There are plenty of different walks and hikes to do here which you can sign up for, some are off site but there is plenty to do within the 1000 acres of the property itself.

Please note kids have to be over 6 years of age and must be supervised when there as the lodge is on a steep ridge.
