There is a wonderful feeling of calm and tranquility around Casa Luna Hotel that comes partly from the majestic volcanoes and mountains that surround and enclose it. The proximity of these stunning peaks not only gives the most incredible views, but has also has made the surrounding land some of the most fertile in Costa Rica, due to the historic and on going eruptions that have coated the surroundings in nutrient rich volcanic ash. This is evident not only in the lush rainforest that surrounds it, but also in the peaceful, perfectly manicured gardens that provide an idyllic selection of native species of flora and fauna that can be seen from many of the rooms. This means that as well as offering easy access to the rainforest trails that surround it, it is also possible to look out for toucans, wild turkeys, hummingbirds, iguanas, lizards, turtles and howler monkeys, all from the comfort of your room or the luxury of the on site restaurants and bars, which it must be said, are fantastic.
With many of the ingredients provided from the organic gardens that are on site, the restaurant offers a range of food, including stunning takes on traditional Costa Rican classics, or more basic fare to suit everybody’s needs, and is set within the rustic colonial style of the hotel, offering a memorable dining experience. During the day there is also a range of delicious snacks at the poolside wet bar, where you can also find an array of wonderful cocktails to sip away a beautiful afternoon or two.
The rooms themselves start with the standard deluxe option, which are set in individual modules of 4 rooms, which all have complete privacy and lovely attention to detail: great quality bed linen, black out curtains, all the basic amenities, and lovely views of the Arenal Volcano and the Cerro Chato Hill, as well as being set within the natural springs and tropical gardens of the property.
The Lunar Superior rooms include all of this, but are slightly more spacious, and have a more modern feel to them, as well as having terraces with a private seating areas that look out over the streams and fauna of the gardens.
The real jewel in the crown of Casa Luna, though, are the Luna Junior suites, which are two strategically spaced buildings surrounded by beautiful nature and combine the rustic colonial character of the place with a touch of modern luxury, with a tranquil ‘weeping wall’ and a private outdoor jacuzzi with stunning views of the surrounding volcanoes.
All of these lovely features are done in the most responsible and sustainable manner possible, which is a great touch, with the entire building made from reforested wood, contaminate free paints, roofs of recycled plastic and energy-saving techniques employed throughout. The real focus of this delightful place is offering a personalised service, complete with luxury spa and wonderful staff, that is perfectly in harmony with its surroundings.
