The Banana Azul hotel is a small and simple hotel north of town on Playa Negra. The small boutique hotel has been created with care using local products and a philosophy that emphasizes relaxation, catering to adults. Blooming gardens adorn the property, as do several freely-hanging hammocks, providing the perfect spot for afternoon napping or leisurely reading. A meandering pond inhabited by fish and turtles flows through portions of the property adding a lighter element to the ongoing natural soundtrack of waves crashing against the shoreline.

The hotel offers 4 different kinds of rooms in the main building: Ocean Rooms, Dolphin Room, Howler Suite and Tropical Bath Suites. It also offers accommodation in adjacent buildings in 4 different kinds of living spaces: Villas Banana Verde, Tree House Apartment, Red Frog Tropical Suite and Sloth Caribbean Cabinas. There are also rooms available in adjacent sister property Casa Las Brisas. All rooms have private baths, fans (some with A/C), hardwood furniture and free WiFi. Most rooms offer access to a large veranda with sweeping ocean views and of the garden.

On the main building all rooms are 24 m2 and offer Queen bedding, some with option to add single beds. Ocean Rooms are located on the top floor, and feature spacious decks (that can be joint if families are staying in adjacent rooms) with side views of the beach and a hammock. Dolphin Room are similar, but larger and located on the corner of the top floor. Howler Suites are the same size, but feature the best sea-view corner room with wrap-around deck, closest to the beach. It also has a deluxe bathroom with tub for two overlooking the beach. Tropical Bath Suites are located on the ground floor, between the reception and the restaurant, consist of a bedroom with A/C, that connects to a separate private garden bath area with enclosed patio, two-person bathtub and outside shower. This room is enclosed and does not have views to the outside, only to the inner garden bath area.

Sloth Caribbean Cabinas are 20m2, separated from the main building, next to the road, and located on the 2nd floor. Room includes a private deck overlooking gardens and ocean, hammocks and a queen bed.
Villa Banana Verde is 36 m², include a kitchen, dining area, lounge area, bedroom with cable TV, a luxurious shower and A/C. The villas also include a cool plunge pool and a balcony on both the first as well as the second floor. It accommodates up to four people, as there is a sofa bed in the living room area.
On a standalone building, tucked away within the trees in the corner of the property, you will find the Tree House Apartment (the largest accommodation of the property) on the top floor and the Red Frog Tropical Suite on the ground floor. The Suite comes with a private plunge pool, deluxe bathroom with rain shower, A/C, oversized patio with fish pond and private gardens. The Tree House Apartment is 65 m2, originally built as the owner's home, tucked up in the trees and is a fully furnished, two bedroom Apartment. It features jungle and some ocean views, full open-air kitchen. The large bedroom has a queen size bed, the smaller has a double bed. Larger parties up to 6 guests can rent both properties, to have a full 3 bedroom/2 bath 2-floor house with private lounge pool included.
Banana Azul offers its guests a quaint restaurant that serves a complimentary filling breakfast, variety of lunch options and refreshing drinks throughout the day and a relaxing three entre dinner option in a romantic atmosphere at night.
