Costa Rica has so much to offer trying to decide what you would like to do can be confusing so we have put together some tips below to try to help:
Wildlife:
No trip to Costa Rica should be planned without including an aspect of wildlife. However the country is so abundant you will be sure to see a whole lot wherever your trip takes you.
Tortuguero: Heading to the canals of Tortuguero is a great way to see wildlife. It fits in well from San Jose and is a perfect addition for itineraries that do not wish to travel too far. The hotels tend to run in a group style way but this works for a few nights as your programme takes you to different places and at different times to see a variety of animals. In July this is highly recommended for turtle nesting season.
Osa Peninsula: If possible we would strongly suggest visiting this part of the country. The most wild and rugged part of the country this peninsula is home to a huge number of animals, flora and fauna. It is likely to require a plan ride to get there and it may not be for the faint hearted with often muggy and rainy days of trekking but this really is truly worth it!
Cloud Forests:
We have so many options for cloud forest properties and we would always suggest one in your itinerary for its unique wildlife, flora and fauna.
Adventure:
The area around Arenal Volcano is the adventure capital and therefore often included in itineraries. It is a great destination and really does have it all, but this and its close proximity to San Jose mean the hotels tend to be larger and it can get very busy. A perfect base for adrenaline seekers but we can also include most activities elsewhere in the country so if you aren’t one for crowds please let us know.
Beaches:
North Pacific: The beaches in the North Pacific are abundant and are a mixture of white sand and black volcanic sand. Being the most convenient to San Jose there are more resorts here than the rest of the country so there is something for everyone. It may seem busier than other options but it is a great area for facilities and for a few nights at the end of the trip without having to travel too far.
Nicoya Peninsula: Home to some of the best beaches in the country and in fact the world this beautiful peninsula has white sand beaches with calm waters and world class surfing waves. Being a peninsula, as well as the bumpy dirt track roads, it can take a bit of time to reach but we would highly recommend it if you have a good amount of time to spend on the beach in your trip
Central Pacific: With a mixture of high end hotels and simple boutique properties this is a good well trodden part of the country to visit. The properties in Dominical are perfect for a splurge and time in Manuel Antonio is a brilliant mixture of coast and jungle.
Puerto Viejo: The Caribbean coast is stunning and has a very different vibe to the Pacific. Relaxed hotels with wooden bungalows dotter the coastline with colourful tico restaurants and surf and snorkel shacks. We love this part of the country and it is a great place to include into your trip but it does have more rain than elsewhere.
