A connecting flight from Johannesburg International Airport (O.R Tambo) in South Africa is the easiest and quickest way to go on safari to Botswana. However there are also connecting flights from Cape Town and Windhoek (Namibia). At present, there are no international airlines flying directly to Maun airport.

Therefore, the best way to get to Botswana is to fly to Maun or Kasane. Indeed, these two cities have international airports in northern Botswana, close to popular national parks and major roads. The airports facilitate the arrival and departure of domestic flights to airstrips in the Okavango Delta, Moremi Game Reserve and Central Kalahari. People travelling by themselves can easily enter Botswana via the border posts of neighbouring countries. However, some time must be allowed for the time spent on the road.

Maun Airport

All flights to Botswana as a safari destination are based at Maun International Airport, which is the main hub. The airport is located within the city itself.

Gaborone Airport

Located just 10 km north of Gaborone, Sir Seretse Khama International Airport offers daily one-hour flights from Johannesburg and three times weekly two-hour flights from Harare.

Kasane Airport

About four kilometres south of the town of Kasane, Kasane International Airport is only a few kilometres from Chobe National Park.

We can offer a full Botswana holiday service including flight bookings but some clients save money by booking their flights themselves and we are happy to offer advice. For this reason, the holiday prices we quote exclude flights and you should add around £900-£1100 per person to allow for the cost. To get the best prices you really need to book flights early as leaving to the last minute means you pay a premium.

There are no direct flights from the UK to Botswana. British Airways and Virgin Atlantic Airways fly via Johannesburg to Maun or Gaborone International Airport.
