Very hot places to travel to in February and March

By Val Garibotti on 26th November, 2024

PHILIPPINES

As winter lingers in the UK, the heat and sunshine of the Philippines intensify. By February, temperatures sit around 30 degrees in most of the country and as March wears on, that number keeps rising. Clear blue skies, tropical beaches, warm waters ideal for snorkeling, diving, and kayaking plus plenty of coconuts and local rum – beats the grey skies of winter, doesn’t it?

As an added bonus, this is a great time to see the ancient rice terraces of Batad in the Cordillera mountains. By March, they’re usually bright green and just about ready for harvest. With slightly cooler temperatures in the mountains, you can start the holiday there, easing into the tropical humidity and heat. Then fly south to the islands.

Whether it’s the Visayas group with the tarsiers of Bohol, mysticism of Siquijor, and waterfalls of Cebu, or the limestone cliffs of Palawan that appeal, these are great months to dip your toes in the sand and cool off in the ocean.

LAOS

If you fancy heat without getting sand in your luggage, the land-locked nation of Laos might be just what you’re after. With temps in the low 30s and oodles of sunshine, Laos is an ideal escape at this time of year.

Walk across bamboo bridges in Luang Prabang, cool off in waterfalls, take a boat ride up the Nam Ou to small towns or down the Mekong at sunset, walk the hills of Nong Khiaw, and take it easy in the sleepy south. Life in Laos moves at a leisurely pace and watching the sun drop over the Mekong can be just as mesmerizing as an ocean sunset. In fact, there’s something downright idyllic about sitting riverside with a cold drink watching the water flow and the occasional boat go by. It can be so peaceful that you won’t miss the beach with its crowds, sand, and constant need for more sunscreen.

VIETNAM

You can’t go wrong touring Vietnam at this time of year as the weather is at its best across the long, variable country and all stops are available to you!

All our tours are completely personalised and packed with private trips and experiences, but check out the Grand Tour for some inspiration – it really has it all, from quirky street-food tours in Hanoi and Saigon, a cruise in Halong Bay, plenty of beach time and countryside exploring too.

Sandy Beach in Langkawi

MALAYSIA

Direct flights from London (and more coming in April when BA re-launch the route), delectable food unlike anywhere else, beautiful beaches, two heritage cities, a touch of jungle, tea plantations in the highlands, and one bustling city with a killer 4-star boutique hotel: Malaysia offers an all-around holiday with exceptional value. In these dreary months in the UK, you’ll find temps in the low 30s with plenty of sunshine.

Even if you can only get away for 10 days, you can see the highlights and pack in quite a bit without being too terribly rushed. Explore Kuala Lumpur, the island of Penang with its UNESCO-designated heritage city of Georgetown, and relax on the beach with Langkawi where you can find dusky langurs, cheeky macaques, mangroves, colourful birds, rice paddies, and dense jungle. Of course, if you have a bit more time, you could travel overland from KL to Penang with a stop for a few nights in the Cameron Highlands or a luxurious wellness retreat in the countryside of Ipoh.

SINGAPORE

Sitting less than 2 degrees north of the equator, Singapore is always hot and February is the hottest month. Expect high twenties, low thirties, and plenty of tropical humidity.

Whether you’re drawn to lush gardens, futuristic buildings, world-renowned street food, cultural enclaves, history, shopping – for bargains or luxury goods, beaches, theme parks, breakfast with orangutans, the largest aquarium in South East Asia, ziplining, walking, cycling, fine dining, cityscapes, river cruises, or nearly anything else that you can think of, there’s something for you in Singapore.

A country that never stops reinventing itself, Singapore is worth a visit more than once in your lifetime. If you haven’t included it yet on a trip through the region, why not include it on your next trip to Asia – or better yet, make a trip just for the City in a Garden?

Oh, with all that heat and humidity, you might be wondering about melting. Air conditioning is everywhere so although we can’t help with the crushing weight of equatorial heat when you’re walking around, we can get you into a car for a private tour or have a guide take you through the city with chilly air conditioning and a few tips on how to escape the heat as you walk.
