Travel trends for 2025

By Theodora Taylor Franks on 16th December, 2024

What are the travel trends in 2025 going to be?

Travel is a difficult thing to pin trends to – needs and wishes for holiday types change as often as the seasons.

Major changes in the world affect the travel industry almost instantly, and as the planet changes, so do clients needs.

So while we can’t answer the question above, we can take a pretty educated guess about some travel trends for 2025.

Here are our three predictions for travel trends in 2025.

1. Bang on trend: personalisation.

The question on everyone’s lips across just about every sector is ‘aren’t you scared AI will take your job?‘ and the answer for us is no.

And the reason we’re so sure? AI can never be truly personal, because it’s not human (yet!)

With all the prompts in the world, AI cannot tell you how a Moroccan wool rug feels under your hands, or how fresh and fragrant Thai food tastes.

It cannot describe the sounds and smells of the jungle in Borneo, or recall the lived experiences of a true travel expert. It can tell you lots of information, but it cannot help you decide which part of a country is going to make your soul sing.

AI can also put together a fair itinerary – no point ignoring that. But it won’t be personal. It’ll just be the logical sum of some prompts and the straightest line drawn between A and B. The chances are, it’s told 10,000 other people to take the same trip, too.

A travel expert’s job is to make a holiday as personal to you and your fellow travellers as possible.

To make sure that your itinerary isn’t something that a chatbot has told 1000 other people. A travel expert’s job is to listen to your personal needs, understand them, and make sure that your holiday matches.

You’ll have a significantly better trip when it’s planned by a human.

Don’t believe us? We put it to the test.

2. Spot on trend: spontaneity & wellbeing

We’re pretty sure that in 2025 we’re going to see more trips leaving time for spontaneity – whether that’s an extra day in a city to soak up the atmosphere, perhaps stumble across some live music or simply follow your feet for a day to see where you end up.

Perhaps it’s time left open to just decide when you get there. Maybe you fall in love with the food and take a cooking class so you can replicate it at home! Or decide that this really is the year to learn to surf, to horse ride – or to sit down and read an entire book in a day.

We think there’ll be a few more ‘figure it out as we go’ day on holidays in 2025.

Our money is also on wellbeing being high up the list in 2025!

Holidays that focus more on you returning home a happier, healthier version of yourself. A holiday where there’s no pressure to see it all, do it all. Trips that put your happiness and wellness above all else.

Whether that’s a spa and wellness break, a holiday where you hike a mountain at your own pace, a holiday where you take an emotional journey, or holidays where you simply switch off from everything and everyone.

Some great options for more spontaneous holidays are Turkey and Greece where it’s easy to book as you go  – from cookery classes to trips out on a traditional gulet (but no stress, you can of course ask Charlie to book it all for you, if spontaneity just isn’t your thing!)

3. Making the trend: sustainability

A seriously spicy topic but we are certain sustainability will be high on the priority list in 2025.

So let’s be clear from the off: sustainable travel does not mean not travelling.

Tourism is here to stay. We will always want to travel, and so we suspect you will, too.

But we think there’ll be a big swing to holidays having much better impacts.

To prioritising hotels that use solar and wind power. To domestic transfers being by train or minibus, even if it takes a bit longer. To experiences that properly benefit communities. To travel helping to reduce inequality through careful spending. To travelling responsibly.

That’s what sustainable tourism means to us.

Being responsible when travelling, being careful where your money is spent, and leaving somewhere having had a positive impact.

What do you think will be a travel trend in 2025?
