Multi-generation summer holidays

By Val Garibotti on 17th March, 2023

Summer is getting closer.

Regular scenes of lunches determinedly eaten outside, because the Sun. Is. Out. And. So. Are. We.

It’ll take a while to get to 30 degrees at home, but in the meanwhile, how about planning a summer holiday with Fleewinter?

Summer to us means barbecues, beaches, sun cream* and adventure – family style.

Spot wildlife in the Amazon with cousins, snorkel in the clear waters of the Indian Ocean with grandparents, or combine natural beauty and iconic cultural heritage to create core memories with the kids.

SINGAPORE

Singapore is more than a stopover, it’s a destination in itself, especially for families who want a bit of everything. Big city lights, futuristic – and classical – gardens, vibrant cultures, history and museums, mouth-watering food, rainforest adventures on the ground and in the air, even theme parks and beaches, Singapore packs a lot into a small space.

The country is easy to navigate and families of all ages are welcomed. We’ve found the perfect family hotels in the heart of the action and by the beach so that everyone has places to relax and some can stay back and rest while others go exploring.

BALI

Boasting an astounding mix of adventure, exploration, volcanoes, history, culture, food, tropical paradise, beach heaven, surfing, diving and more, Bali quite literally has it all.

There are 18,000 islands in Indonesia, so it would take a lifetime to visit them all: but start with Bali, and if you have a couple of weeks, it’s more than possible to take the family to Gili Air or Gili Meno for some exquisite underwater environments; or travel to Lombok and discover the impressive volcanoes.

MOROCCO

Morocco is wonderfully flexible.  There are loads of family friendly activities, but equally the more high powered activities can be adjusted to suit littler or longer-lived legs!

Hiking in the Atlas mountains can be a fabulously energetic activity for those looking to burn off a few tagines – but also, some routes have more to see on the way to keep younger family members interested, with plenty of stopping points.

It’s also impossible to get bored in Morocco, whether going for a camel ride, finding green oasis pools in the desert or exploring the medina, there’s something for everyone.

MALAYSIA

Western Malaysia has some of the best infrastructure in Southeast Asia which means you can see it in comfort while getting from one place to the next instead of packing everyone up to fly every few days. From Kuala Lumpur, you can explore a heritage city, wildlife areas, iconic cultural sites and more as day trips meaning less of that pesky packing.

A drive north can lead to tea plantations or a jungle adventure. Go onward overland to George Town for culture and food. Then hop a ferry or short flight to Langkawi for wildlife, rainforest, beaches, and our favourite family hotel in the country: The Datai.

BRAZIL

The Brazilian Amazon is the world’s best place to live an unforgettable adventure with your family! This world treasure is the perfect place to experience with your kids and grandparents. And if you can, bring the uncles, aunts and cousins too! You will have so many stories to talk about for years to come.

And if you can, add a few nights in the Pantanal for a full immersion into Brazil’s immense natural wealth. Who doesn’t want to spot a jaguar in the company of the whole family!

SRI LANKA

Sri Lanka appeals to all ages, with beaches, safaris, hikes, watersports and culture on offer across the island – its the perfect choice year round.

Check out this sample itinerary for winter months, designed to keep car times short enough for event the littlest ones but pack in plenty of interest for everyone. Visit historic Galle, head out on safari, and lounge in your staffed villa by the beach.

MALDIVES

Family-friendly islands in the Maldives means more than a beach resort with a kids club. Child sized buffets, classes with expert marine biologists, villas with water slides, childcare while the adults visit the spa… and no need to sacrifice the luxury and romance.

One of our favourite options for multi-generation trips is this sample itinerary that offers 3 different islands to stay on and endless activities you can do together or separately.

VIETNAM

While Monsoon rains hit much of South-east Asia during the British summer months, central Vietnam is one of the exceptions – it is the perfect place to head for a slice of sun, culture and coast.

It is home to Hoi An, one of the country’s most beautiful UNESCO-protected towns with a fab beach too. Take a peek at our Summer Holiday in Vietnam itinerary for some inspiration for a holiday for all the family.
