Why visit Jordan now?

Jordan has maintained its stability and peace, staying out of regional conflicts.

Its hospitable people are eager to welcome travellers, and the current lull in tourism offers a rare opportunity to explore its wonders without the usual crowds.

But there’s another important reason not to discount Jordan, despite its proximity to a regional conflict. The serene experience aside, you’ll also be supporting the local economy, which is feeling the negative effects of a conflict it is simply not involved in.

Your choice to travel will have even more impact than normal.

One recent Fleewinter client shared:

“Jordan was amazing—so quiet, which was wonderful for us, though tough for the Jordanians. We loved the flexibility of the itinerary and especially appreciated the balloon ride you suggested, as it became one of the highlights of our trip!

Top highlights of Jordan

● Petra: A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Petra’s rose-red ruins are a must-see. Opt for the back trail to the Monastery for a quieter and equally stunning approach.

Wadi Rum: Experience the magical desert, with jeep tours, stargazing, and luxurious Bedouin camps. Consider an extra night here for hiking or exploring further.

● Dead Sea: Float effortlessly in its salty waters and unwind at one of the area’s world-class resorts.

● Amman: Jordan’s lively capital boasts Roman ruins, bustling souks, and modern cafes. Don’t miss dining at local gems like Jafra for an authentic experience.

Red Sea in Aqaba: Perfect for diving or snorkelling in its coral-filled waters. However, if that’s not to your taste, spend additional time in Wadi Rum or other locations instead.

● Jerash: Discover the remarkably preserved Roman ruins just north of Amman.

Best time to visit

With over 310 days of sunshine a year, you’re almost guaranteed warm weather if you visit Jordan from May to November, when there is also barely any rainfall.

The country is at its best in spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November), when the weather is warm but not overly hot, ideal for exploring the country’s incredible sites. October, for instance, offers cool mornings and comfortable days, making it perfect for outdoor adventures.

In the summer, Jordan gets a little hotter – Amman, for example, can reach temperatures of up to 40°C (but it’s a tolerable, dry heat) and by the Dead Sea it can reach 45°C. If you like hot weather, this is the perfect time to visit as it’s much less touristy than during the spring months.

TRAVEL ESSENTIALS

Visa and passports – A visa is required to enter Jordan. Luckily, a visa will already be included in all Jordan holidays with Fleewinter.

You’ll need at least 6 months validity left on your passport too, so be sure to check before you plan your trip.

Clothing advice – While western visitors are not subject to the same customs as its locals, Jordan is still primarily a Muslim country, so revealing clothing will be frowned upon.

All our clients are advised to dress conservatively.

Travelling with children – Jordan is one of the safest places to travel in the world, allowing both young and old to enjoy its beauty in complete peace of mind.

If you’re taking children with you on your trip to Jordan, there are so many things to do with them that are both entertaining and educational. Jordan can be the perfect family holiday destination!

Ramadan – Ramadan is a holy month of fasting and the precise date varies from year to year.

If your trip to Jordan is during Ramadan, please be aware that eating, drinking and smoking in public places is very much discouraged during daylight hours, and alcohol will not be sold outside of the country’s larger hotels.

Health and Vaccinations – Although no immunisations or vaccinations are needed to enter Jordan, it is a good idea to make sure you’re up to date your immunisations.

Perhaps the biggest threat to your health in Jordan is the heat, especially when travelling in the desert. You should really avoid direct exposure to the sun, and head protection is vital.

Money – The local currency in Jordan is the Jordanian Dinar (JD) which is broken down into 100 piasters or 1,000 fills. So when you see a price of 3,250 that’s 3 JD and 25 piaster.

Many international currencies can be exchanged at banks, hotels and exchange bureaus throughout Jordan, namely US dollars, British pounds, Euro and Canadian and Australian dollars.

What our clients say

Here’s how a recent traveller rated their Fleewinter holiday in Jordan:

The itinerary was fantastic—well-organised and flexible.

Highlights included Petra, a balloon ride over Wadi Rum, and a relaxing stay at the Hilton Dead Sea. Accommodations were excellent, with personal favourites like Movenpick Petra and Memories Aicha Camp in Wadi Rum.

Jordan itself was breathtaking, with incredible sights, friendly people, and no crowds. If I could change one thing, I’d have added another night in Wadi Rum.”
