Is the Summer a good time to visit the Maldives?

Is the summer a good time to visit the Maldives?

The Maldives is truly a year round destination.

And although admittedly the glorious guaranteed endless daily sunshine and crystal clear ocean is most reliable December to April, we wholeheartedly agree its an incredible place to visit at other times too – including the long, balmy school summer holidays in July and August and the May half term.

You might see the odd rain shower in the transition month of May and some more in June, July and August. However can also expect around 8 hours of daily sunshine and temperature highs of up to 31 degrees too.

And summer months in the Maldives have their definite upsides…

1. Prices drop

High season prices can be breathtakingly high, particularly in the school holidays over December and February, and especially when you need room for a family rather than just a couple.

Come May half term and the long summer holidays from July to August, the price point is more manageable and won’t necessarily require a second mortgage

2. Better availability

You might be an organised person – but planning 18 months ahead for a family holiday just isn’t how everyone operates. And that’s what you need to do for the best options in super-peak periods in the Maldives. Summer months give you the option to plan at shorter notice.

3. Manta Ray Season!

These graceful creatures surge in numbers between May and October and are particularly easy to see around UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Hanifaru Bay where you can snorkel amongst them – so if you’re wondering if summer is a good time to visit the Maldives and spotting marine wildlife is high on your list, this this is a great time to visit!

Avani Fares is a great family choice in the area with a good number of excellent 2 bed villas, and probably our favourite choice  in the Baa Atoll for 2024 – 2025.

4. Surfing!

Be warned, reef surfing is tricky and best for experienced surfers – but April to November you can expect some of the worlds best surf breaks, and of course a beautiful luxurious tropical island to unwind on the rest of the time.

Ayada is one of our favourites for summer surfing in the region.

So, is the summer a good time to visit the Maldives?  Yes!
