Disconnect, destress, decompress.  Go off grid.

Easier said than done, sometimes.

Find your breath again by getting off the grid.  Whether a solo trip, or travelling with someone you love, decompress, destress and disconnect with our favourite off the grid holidays.

go off grid in Borneo

Bask in the peacefulness of Borneo

Reaching the wilds of Borneo is no small journey so by the time you hear the distinctive call of a proboscis monkey or the song of a gibbon, you’ll know you’re off the grid and away from the bustle of daily life. Danum Valley is home to some of the world’s oldest, completely untouched rainforest and is teeming with wildlife. Orangutans, gibbons, red-leaf monkeys, civets, Borneo pygmy elephants, stick insects, tarsiers, and more can be spotted – some of them while walking through the trails and across the canopy on a walkway high above the ground. It’s a magical place.

Of course, that’s not the only spot in Borneo to get off the grid and back to nature. You could choose the caves of Mulu, the Kinabatangan River, the Maliau Basin, the forest of Mt Kinabalu, a tribal longhouse in Sarawak, an island in the South China Sea… just about anywhere, really!

Destress in wild Iceland

Discover the Icelandic path less travelled as you fly over to explore the beautiful east coast with its sleepy fishing villages, striking wilderness and authentic Icelandic culture. Visit the wild and active north with its awe-inspiring waterfalls, volcanoes and rifts, not forgetting Akureyri, the Capital of the North. Dog-sled or (cross-country) ski or climb in winter, if you’re feeling adventurous, or track reindeer (on horseback) before relaxing in the Myvatn Nature Baths. Head to the south where you can kayak amongst icebergs on the glacier lake, stroll along black sand beaches and relax and bathe in hot pools before stargazing and taking in the Northern Lights.

Seek serenity in sailing

Yachting isn’t just about the wonderful sailing, the delicious food, the watersports or the personalised experience…they just come as standard.

Sometimes a holiday is about putting Instagram down and getting back to exploring a new place using all your senses.

Swim in the clearest waters whilst exploring the rocky coastline of Ithaca, take a walking tour of Paxos exploring the flora and fauna along the way or spot flamingos on your journey through the Lefkas canal. For a truly off the grid experience why not book for the quieter months of May, June, September and October. Be self – contained on your own floating paradise.

Avoid the crowds in Vietnam

This completely unique and spectacular itinerary shows you the best of the country – but also enables you to avoid the crowds in Vietnam. We take you from Hanoi, onto an off the beaten track cruise of Halong Bay before taking you on an overnight sleeper train to Phong Nha, a lesser visited area that is home to some of Asia’s best caves. Then it’s onto Hue for a slice of history before spending a few days on the beach near Hoi An, before taking you down to Saigon for some adventures in the south including a two-day bike ride in the Mekong (if you don’t like cycling we can change this very easily!)

Child-friendly exploring in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is a perfect island for parents seeking a little adventure and authentic taste of local culture with their children. You can visit tea country, striking beaches and historic towns with only short drives between them, and there is a wide choice of calm bays ideal for novice snorkellers. This example itinerary focuses on the wildlife and will introduce you to turtles, elephants and whales and includes a safari as well – which can be removed for very young children who might not have the patience for it.

This tour has been carefully designed to ensure a well paced holiday and only short car journeys. We can tailor the tour to suit you and your family so get in touch with our Sri Lanka specialists to discuss.

Spend time mindfully in Mexico

Visit the lesser known state of Chiapas, float down Sumidero Canyon, explore the magical mountain town of San Cristobal de la Casas with stunning cobbled streets, churches, cafes and artisan markets, Experience Agua Azul falls, and the ruins of Palenque. End your trip by sampling the beautiful beaches, breathtaking cenotes, magical ruins and colourful towns of the Caribbean coast.

Paradise in Palawan, Philippines

If you’ve ever tried to plan a holiday in the Philippines, you know that figuring out how to get around isn’t easy. Flights, ferries, and overland travel all seem to require an advanced degree in puzzle-completion. Some areas are so remote that to reach them, your only options are long drives on less-than-perfect roads with hairpin turns or flights on tiny planes with their own bumpy paths.

The views along the way are stunning and the destinations are worth the journey but this is one country where getting off the beaten path and into a remote piece of paradise is easy… if you know where to look. A few of our favourites: Siquijor, Busuanga Bay in Coron, Sagada, Batad, Dauin, and a few islands off Palawan we wish we could keep secret forever.

Kenya is geographically diverse, from snow-capped mountain peaks to extensive forests to wide –open plains. An unforgettable adventure awaits you in Kenya, with amazing game drives or even during the Big Migration. Tantalising Tanzania

Vast and beautiful is Tanzania’s nature and wildlife. The plains of the Serengeti are a great place to observe wildlife. A once-in-a-life-time experience… Especially when you visit during the ‘baby season’, when youngster playfully fill the plains. The southern plains of the Serengeti are the place that the wildebeest call home. It is here were life begins for half a million wildebeest during the calving season which usually takes place in February/March.

Natural wonders of Namibia

The wide-open plains of Namibia are a great place to find peace and relaxation. A night-sky ‘safari’ is stunning, as I am sure you have never seen so much stars. Namibia is known for its numerous red, huge dunes, be it in the Namib Desert or Dune 45 of Sossusvlei in the Namib-Naukluft National Park. They are one of the top photo opportunities in Africa, if not the world. Above all, the landscapes within the country are incredibly diverse.  The perfect off grid location to destress.

Off-track Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstan will delight any traveller looking for huge, untamed mountain vistas, remoteness and a thriving local culture.  This 10 day trip takes in the capital, Bishkek before heading into the rugged wilderness.  Trek through Ala-Archa National Park, explore the shores of lakes Issy Kul and Son Kul and sleep in traditional yurt tents as the Kyrgyz have done for millenia. Son Kul Yurt is open from mid-May to the end of September. Son Kul Lake is a mountain lake in the Central Tian Shan Range and is the second largest lake in Kyrgyzstan, lying at an altitude of 3016m above sea level with a total area of an incredible 275 sq km.
