City breaks and long weekends away!

By Valeria Garibotti on 21st April, 2023

We love the spontaneity of a long weekend away.

Usually they’re just what the doctor ordered. A break in routine, a well deserved boost of mood and energy, and only a couple of days off needed to feel like you’ve really replenished yourself.

Plus, it’s quite a ‘let’s just go!’ option – not much planning needed. (Even less if someone’s planning it for you…!)

You can be as active or idle as you please for a long weekend. Visit Slovenia to ride horses through open meadows, or concentrate on al fresco dining in Croatia!

Whatever you need in a short getaway, we reckon we’ve got great options for you. Here are some of our favourites!

Morocco

Looking for an adventure-filled long weekend getaway? Consider this itinerary that offers a unique opportunity to explore two different sides of Morocco. Despite the short distances, we recommend changing your accommodation to maximize your time in both destinations.

In Marrakech, you’ll have two full days to explore the city’s main sights and soak up its vibrant atmosphere. Then, head to the Atlas Mountains for a completely different flavor of Morocco. Here, you can take in stunning views, stroll through charming villages and farms, or embark on a more serious trek. With our private drivers providing door-to-door service, you’ll enjoy a hassle-free journey and a comfortable experience.

This itinerary allows you to discover the best of both worlds in just four nights, making it the perfect long weekend getaway. So, why not add a bit of adventure to your travels and book this exciting trip today?

Egypt

Visit the Great Pyramids and Sphinx of Giza. As well as these there are gorgeous historical sites such as the Islamic city, Old Cairo and the Egyptian Museum that are not to be missed. Cairo is home to a vibrant and modern society with some areas being described as “Paris on the Nile” built in the 19th Century.

Though only 4 hours away you will have immersed yourself fully in a different culture and surrounding. Make sure to try the Egyptian Specialities such as the tasty Egyptian Falafel and to taste the delicious Lamb Fattah.

Slovenia

The old town of Ljubljana offers a great atmosphere with twinkling lights and charming cafes along the river. We can book you a private guide to introduce you to Slovenian Food and sights around the city.

For the adventurous, just an hours’ drive away, you “fly” along the worlds steepest zipline. Take a day trip to Lake Bled and it will enchant you with its beautiful colour and surroundings. Tivoli Park stretches right into the city centre and is definitely worth a visit.

Slovenia Horse Riding

Spend a long weekend on and near the beautiful Lipizzaner horses. The newly build Maestoso Hotel at the Lipica stud farm is a great place to enjoy nature and some great riding on these majestic white horses.

For horse lovers it is a must to come and see the mares with their foals when they make their way to the green paddocks in the morning. It is breath-taking to see hundreds of mares and foals on their way to the juicy green paddocks. Enjoy guided tours or visit a show, Lipica is the the biggest Lipizzan stud farm in the world.

Experience it in the company of over 300 white Lipizzan horses across more than 300 hectares of green space.”

Hungary Horse Riding

During the day you spend your time in the peaceful Puzsta on horseback and at night you can count the stars while sleeping in a luxury yurt. Though Homoki Lodge is so much more than just riding… Explore the rolling plains of South Hungary, whether on horseback, horse driven carriage or with the Jeep you will witness some of the most beautiful scenery this region has to offer.

Enjoy a delicious picnic from the observation platform above the protected wetlands at Mórahalom. It is also great to visit the show of the Puszta Five: Hungarian Cowboys are standing at the back of five galloping horses

What more do you need for a relaxed short break?!

Croatia

Enjoy a city break in Croatia and wander cobbled streets lined with charming, shuttered stone houses. Hear stories of ancient times as you uncover Roman ruins. Climb to one of the many forts for stunning views across the Adriatic. Sip excellent coffee or local wines as you watch the world go by. You might even soak up some sun on a city beach or witness majestic, fortified towns from the sea in a kayak. Tag on an extra day and you can combine a city break with a day charter to explore the nearby islands.

Wherever you are, there’s likely to be a UNESCO site on the doorstep (Croatia has 10) or a beautiful national park. Buzzing bars and dining options, from local Konobas with traditional dishes to Michelin-starred fine dining in unique settings. Tag on an extra day and you can combine a city break on the coast with a day charter to explore the nearby islands. Bliss!

So, what are you waiting for, we’ll help you get the most out of your city break in Croatia.

Turkey

Less than a 4 hour flight from the UK, Istanbul is a wonderful city for a long weekend getaway, most people tend to head to Sultanahmet where the major sites are located, but if you prefer to stay slightly outside, we highly recommend a stay in fashionable Beyoğlu, at the iconic Pera Palace Hotel…

One of the most famed hotels in the city, Pera Palace attracted famous guests such as Greta Garbot, Ernest Hemingway and Agatha Christie, who wrote Murder on the Orient Express whilst staying there.  Traditional, yet sumptuous, with first-class service and in a perfect location for sight-seeing, a long weekend here will stay with you for a long time!
