Calheta is a beautiful and charming municipality located in the southwest coast of Madeira, Portugal. It is a popular destination for families, thanks to its breathtaking landscapes, warm climate, and plenty of activities to keep both parents and kids entertained. Here are five things to do in Calheta with kids that will make your family holiday unforgettable.

1. Visit the Calheta Beach

Calheta Beach is a golden sand beach that stretches for over 200 meters. It is the perfect spot to enjoy the sun and the sea with your kids. The beach is surrounded by a marina, where you can rent boats and explore the coastline. The crystal-clear water is ideal for swimming and snorkelling, and you can also try your hand at some water sports like surfing, windsurfing, and stand-up paddleboarding.

For younger children, there is a designated play area with slides and swings, and for the older ones, there are beach volleyball and soccer courts. There are also plenty of restaurants and cafes along the promenade where you can have a snack or a full meal.

During the tour, you will learn about the process of making sugar cane, from the harvest to the production of molasses and rum. You will also get to taste some of the products made on-site, and there is a shop where you can buy souvenirs and take home some of the delicious products.

5. Whale Watching
