Things to do in Barbados; apart from the stunning beaches and the famous golf courses that Barbados is blessed with, there are many other great attractions that we thought you should know about.

George Washington’s House & Tunnels

The George Washington House in Barbados is a beautifully restored 18th Century Plantation House where George Washington and his brother Lawrence slept in 1751.

For two months a 19 year-old George Washington and his ailing brother stayed at what was then a private residence. This visit was not known to many, but it was an important chapter in the life of who would go on to be the first President of the United States of America and a great military and political leader. His visit to Barbados was his first and only visit outside of North America.

At George Washington House there’s also a museum showcasing 18th & 19th century Barbados as well as artefacts and recreations of yesteryear. The house sits in beautifully landscaped grounds, with a gift shop and a refreshing café and the recently discovered tunnels. Tel: (246)-228-5491

Hunte’s Gardens

A must see while in Barbados as this is one of the leading tourist attraction and has recently been featured on Gardener’s World. Hunte’s Gardens, centrally located in lush hills of St. Joseph’s, are conveniently accessible from all around Barbados. Just 20 to 30 minutes’ drive from Holetown, or St. Lawrence Gap, not far from Flower Forest and Orchid World, they offer to garden and nature lovers one of the finest experiences one can find on East Caribbean islands.

Created by a legendary horticulturist with an unusual flair, Anthony Hunte, these extraordinary gardens will please even the most keen gardeners and enthusiasts. Their placement is really most unusual – in the center of Barbados’ rain forest, in a sink-hole-like gully. Thanks to such interesting location, the g offers a multidimensional experience, with vigorous plants densely growing on many levels – from sunny and open spaces, down to a mysterious, dark heart of real Caribbean jungle.

A picturesque and easy-to-walk path offers many surprises, thanks to the superbly created series of mini-gardens embedded within the main large unit, combining vibrant colour’s and textures of rare exotic plants to offer the visitor a most uplifting and fulfilling experience. Be sure to have your camera ready, as birds and animals love to visit this garden too!  Your exquisite experience is gloriously heightened by classical music subtly wafting in the air, adding an extra layer of delight to an amazing ambiance.

St Nicholas Abbey Rum Tour

St. Nicholas Abbey, located in the parish of St.Peter, was built in 1660 and is one of only three genuine Jacobean mansions in the Western Hemisphere.

The Boat Yard Enjoy a day basking in the sun with lots of fun in Carlisle Bay, shading under the umbrellas, enjoying the beautiful white and PINK sands, and swimming in the swimming pool like crystal blue water! Lots of activities for the kids and very kid friendly during the day. Very economical! You pay $25 per person to get in but can redeem that in food and drinks, no big deal! Gets u a chair, umbrella, WiFi, bathrooms, and the list goes on and on. Water activities were great too and you can even jump on their boat which takes you out to snorkel! Harrison‘s Caves
One of the great natural wonders of the Caribbean is Harrison’s Cave open daily; first tour 8:30am, last tour 4pm; It’s a massive limestone cavern with stalagmites, stalactites, rivers, waterfalls and lakes that you can see from an electric tram that weaves its way through the caves. The existence of a cave network was known in 1796 and is believed to have served as a hiding place for runaway slaves. Tel: 438 6640
